Converting youtube Flv videos for N95?

21 replies · 10,553 views · Started 15 February 2008

I'm sure i have done this already with a video but i cant remember.

Ive got a video that ive "downloaded" off youtube using realplayer. Its a Flv file.

I try and use nokia multimedia convertor but it only does the sound, how do I get it on my phone to watch?

Liam

i know i can view them on my phone using youtuve etc. but im sure I actually converted it to a 3GPP video and then i sent it via an mms, i know i did. I sent it to my phone as 3GPP then edited it using the phone video editor to get it to below 300Kb so i could send it as mms.
Cant remember what i used.

Trying the aboe link now.

I dunno if it's because I have loads of codecs on my PC or not, but I've found if you change the extension from .flv to .avi it works perfectly fine on a PC. Then you can convert the file to either 3gp or mp4 using software like super or 3GPConverter.

I've done this with some clips of Top Gear off YouTube and converted them to 3gp perfectly using this method. They also work on phones other than the N95.

If you're telling me that there is no difference between an avi and flv other than extension.. man that's the most ingenious thing youtube has ever done! hahaha.

it converts the youtube video all online.

let us know how it works.

the site didnt work prob due to norton or something. Downloaded the beta program and works great!

The quality is spot on, thank you.

Take it Super doesnt covert Flv files, as I have super too?

Haha I'm not entire sure why it works. Both my PCs have the full codec packs installed so I don't know if FLV really is AVI. Maybe AVI formats support the H.264 video codec that's used in the FLV format.

Nah, most likely all that is happening is by renaming it to AVI it is opening in media player and that is then finding the correct codec on your machine and playing it, FLV is definately nothing like avi.

So there's a Top Gear Top Tip - If you want FLVs on your phone and not bother with emTube, download the appropriate codec pack for your computer's OS, change the FLV extension to AVI, then convert it to MP4/3GP as normal 😊

And for the full codec pack just simply google "klite codec pack" and get the full edition. Yes, it's free.

Nah, you want the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP). It's the only one you will ever need and much beter than the klite one.

It is a bit of a play on the Soviet angle (the homepage is red with a yellow symbol and the previous codec remover is called the 'insurgent'!) but trust me it is easily the most complete and reliable codec pack i've ever used.
I installed it on a clean Vista build and since then nothing has failed to play/covert etc as a result of codec issues.

LOL, sweet, i'll give it a try, although currently I am using the Klite one. I'm sure I can find a system that doesn't have any installed.

Thanks to the tip from the union of soviet socialist republics i am now able to import all my flv files into Premier by just changing .flv to .avi. Ta

i found a full guide-- ''Convert FLV to 3GPP for playing on Nokia N95 Smartphone with Moyea FLV to Video Converter''

it can help u ,u can google it.

Even easier in my opinion is download Free Download Manager (google it) - it has a tab to copy & paste in the URL from youtube, you can then set FDM to convert the file to any format you like - it downloads & converts in one go, then just copy & paste in the video file to your device. Best of all it's free !
