Hi
two dumb questions:
my w960i takes about 10 seconds before it fades completely into standby mode... how do I reset the time it takes to do that.... its too quick...
I have sky broadband a router and a card with a SSID on it SKYnnnnn
and network key AAAAAAAA - can anyone give me a walkthrough for setting up the WLAN. I will need to do this many times for hotels I'm stopping in so really need to nail this.....

Wifi access depends on the wireless networks setup. Most commonly in public areas such as starbucks wifi access points have no security. In this case simply
Go to Main Menu > Tools > Control Panel > Connections > WLAN (I made this one of the standby screen shortcuts)
Enable wifi
Select "Scan"
Your phone should list found networks including "SKYnnnnn"
Once the network is found select "Connect"
and thats it.
If the wifi network has security then get the details (commonly a password or some such) and then simply go to More > New Account and put the requested details in there.
Its all fairly straight forward.
For an example of security my home wifi network has a WEP key setup. All this means is when I select More > New Account I specify WEP security and then enter in the passcode.
Give it a try, it should be fairly easy. Let us know if the have difficulties
to disable the automatic key lock go to
Control Panel > Security > Locks > Automatic Keylock
To control when the screen fades go to
Control Panel > Device > Backlight > Settings Tab
and in "handheld" set to "on". This then makes the "Active After" item work which you can set to several minutes.
Combining these 2 menu sections I think will give you what you want.
thanks gebly, the autolock was driving me crazy.
Wifi is not connecting somehow.
I tweaked Netgear router and changed to Wep and generated a passcode but it does not seem to work....
I too have a netgear router so if its any help I did the following:
tick the boxes for:
Enable Wireless Access Point
Allow Broadcast of Name (SSID)
This allows the w960 to see the network when it scans.
In "Wireless Station Access List" I hit "Setup access list" and added a "station" which requires entering a device name and MAC address. Any device name will do and you can get your phones MAC address by going to WLAN settings, Enable WLAN and then in Menu there is a "MAC address" option.
Under "Security Encryption (WEP)" I set "Authentication Type:" to "Automatic" and "Encryption Strength:" to "128bit". I then put in a passphrase and generated a key.
I then created a WLAN account on the phone and set Security to WEP. In the next screen of setting up the account I entered the key that had been generated by the router.
I could then use that account to access the router and hence the internet.
ok, it may have been a distance thing.
Sat in the same room as the router and setup was fine.
better still I know how to setup wifi in hotels etc

brick walls in older buildings (as opposed to newer wood walls) can absorb the signal. I too have trouble with this.
