Newbie and a GPS question or two.....

I quickly sussed that the inbuilt GPS reciever wasn't particularly good. Took a long time to lock, and it's signal holding was suspect at best so I re employed my BT 338 which I used with great satisfaction with my N70 and N73 with Tom Tom.

It took me a while to work it out, but I finally managed to get the phone to connect with the external Reciever via Bluetooth. I now had a solid lock and all was well with regards to basic functions.

I then read about Maps 2 beta and decided to give it a whirl before embarking on another TT mobile quest.
I didn't really get on with it during the 3 day trial, struggling to get the information I wanted into or out of the N95 quick enough, especially when driving.

I decided not to pay after the trial.

Now I seem to have a spot of bother with ANY maps at all. i. e no streets. I can see rivers, railway lines and place names but zoom in and the screen is just green.

Do I have to re install Maps 1?

Also, when using my external GPS, when the handset requests to link to the "network" I am right in telling it not to..... right?

Good phone, I need some work though LOL

I would suggest you do a reinstall of maps 1, you may have to reset your phone though, either soft or hard (not sure as I've never done one).

Also, what firmware are you using, you might want to upgrade to the newest (v20 for n95, and v15 for n95 8gb) if you haven't already.

You are right, you don't have to allow your phone to access a network while using the GPS. that simply allows your phone to get a quicker lock but you'll also incure data charges.

Is there a way of upgrading the firmware without al that techy stuff involving Euro1 and all that?
The reason I ask is that when I try and use the software installer, the Nokia site tells me there is no update available. I presume this is an Orange Branding issue?
