anyone know what the format of the wav files is for ringtones?
i'm trying to use mpg123 and sox on linux to convert mp3s to
wavs for use as ringtones on my nokia 9290.
much thanks!

I think you can use any kind of wave files. But when using MultimediaConvertor from Nokia you'll get smaller wav files.
I think you should atleast convert you wav to mono and then try decreasing the bitrate. I think the codec used is the a.236 (something like that, what I stated probably isn't the correct name)

Yeah ... .Dazler is right ... (again 😉 )

I make mine in Mono 16bit 8000Hz (CCITT A-Law 64kps) and they work just fine.
Thats the same as the multimedia converter spews them out in I think ?

I have this mp3, cd, etc to wav converter...
I convert the files to 8.000 kHz 4Bit Mono, IMA ADPCM wav.

it's much smaller than the files converted from multimedia converter and sounds better too (I don't know how but my files sound better)

I forgot where was I able to download the converter but its saved as dMC-r9 an application on my downloads, try to look for it using google, its free. The files converted sounds great on the communicator but not on the 7650, im still trying to figure out the optimum conversion rate so it will sound great on the 7650 as well...

hope this helps...
