I apologise if these have been asked before but ive done a search and cant quite find what im after so if anyone could post a link to my answers if they are on here already id appreciate it.
I have just got an N95 with 8gb card (Orange's way of not supplying the N95 8Gb lol) and wondered if its best to debrand it and update it if needed. Im not sure how to find what FW im on so not sure what its running.
If it is best to debrand how do i go about doing it.
Also ive installed the Slick IM appication and wondered if anyone has experience of it and what sort of data usage it has?
Ive been checking my Packet log but it doesnt seem to rise while using Slick.
I think thats it for now really. Im on the hunt for good applications and ive found that good/best post so im trundling through that.
Thanks in advance guys!
Also i cant get Rotateme or ShakeSMS to work as they say something about invalid certificate?
I dont know about debranding it but you should definitely update the firmaware as it brings many advantages such as elimination of bugs and improvements in performance.
You can check what version of FW is installed on your phone by entring
*#0000# on your phone. The latest one yet is V20.0.015.
Invalid certificate means that you have to obtain a certificate from the developer where you usually pay for it. As you might read many posts about rotateme that its no longer possible to obtain a free certificate.
But try this site its got loads of free apps www.series60v3.com
I hope this answers your question.
Hi Drizz !
Fellow Suffolk user here 😊 I just got my N95 today and have successfully debranded using Nemesis Service Suite and NSU. Now running v20.0.015 instead of the crippling v13 FW that Orange have installed.
Check here for some good apps....

Well ive just done NSU and its only updated to 13.0.003?
Whys that?
Because Orange haven't released v20 yet so your stuck with it unless you debrand
Can someone tell me how to debrand then as i cant seem to find a how 2?

yeah, i wouldnt think to click on:
N95 Product Code FAQs and how to change your product code
would be debranding? Youve been doing this for a while. Us newcomers wouldnt think that debranding involves changing product codes im sure unless its just me...
So i should use:
0534841 Euro1 Sand?
Mines got the purply back and is 0551192...
Ahhhh i think ive just found this:
0536062 - Euro1 - Plum
Is that right?

Yeh thats the right one Drizz.
Thanks guys ill give it a go later...
Either one of those will give you v20 FW.
I changed mine to the "sand" version.
I agree, the stickies could have more obvious titles, but the first thing to do on any forum is to go through the stickies as they will almost always contain information on FAQ and the like.
The process of debranding is really quite simple and painless. But be warned, doing this is likely to void your warranty, although the chances of you falling foul of this are slim. Changing the product code is rather like breaking the seal on something. You can put the old one back in, but a Nokia engineer will be able to tell if it has been changed from the original.
You will need to download the latest beta version of Nemesis Service Suite. Just Google it to find it. When you install it, select the Virtual USB option.
Once installed, connect your N95 up to your PC via USB and set it into PC Suite mode, then open NSS. The screen will be almost entirely blank, save for two buttons top right. Click the one with the magnifying glass on so NSS searches for your phone. This takes a few seconds. When done, there is a button at the top with an icon of a Nokia 6600 phone, and I think it's labelled Phone Info or something similar. Press this and NSS scans the phone for it's codes, etc. On the right you will see the Product Code. Overtype this with your new chosen code, tick the enable box next to it and then hit the Write button.
Your phone should now be the proud owner of a new Product Code.
Shut NSS down and start up NSU (Nokia Software Updater). It should now recognise your handset as a generic EURO model and offer you the update to V20.0.015. Proceed with the update and be mindful not to disconnect, or interrupt in any way, the update process. NSU will tell you when it is safely completed and you can now enjoy a more stable, powerful and flexible N95 experience.
HTH 😊
Cheers matey. Im not too worried about the warranty thing as if it dies like my N80 did i have Orange care so they send out a new one and take your old one back, so if its usable ill revert back to its original details before it goes, if not itll have to go back debranded....
So whereabouts in this fair county of ours are you then ? 😊
I'm the other side of the county, tucked away in a little village near Stowmarket 😊
crashed now. Only sits on nokia screen. Looks like ill have to ring Orange care lol
What happened exactly ?
Try flashing again, you'd be surprised how often NSU picks up a supposedly dead phone. I did it on my old 6680 a couple of times when my PC decided to reboot halfway through updating.
Well its just stuck on the Nokia screen when you first turn it on. Thats it. Got a new one coming tomorrow 😊
Cool 😊
What happened though ? I'd be interested to know what led up to it going like this.
Went through the NSS process fine then when it came to NSU it crashed.
Drizz not having a go about the titles... not my stickies, was actually a 'serious' comment, as you've said, it involves debranding but it isnt in the title. So .... there you go, does read a bit flamey... sorry mate. 😉
Thats ok bud no probs. My new 95 has just turned up. I think ill leave it be this time 😉
