Alarms from the Dead

I expect everyone already knows this, but it surprised me.

This morning about 2:00am I was woken by the sound of a loud low battery sound. In a rather sleepy trance I staggered around the bedroom and turned off all the phones I could find until the noise stopped.

At 5:00 am I was awake and about to get up when the scheduled alarm on my N95 8GB went off, even though the phone was turned off. There was a nice message on the alarm asking if I wanted the phone turned on. My E61 definitely didn't do this.

I am not sure if I like this feature. If my phone is turned off, I wouldn't expect alarms to go off. Could be a bit embarrassing in the cinema!

Ian.

yeah, its always been a feature of Nokia sets, tho Ive never had an E series.

I guess if you dont want the alarm going off in the cinema, dont set it to.

It starts low anyway... so gives you time to kill it.

See, I want my alarms to go off even when the phone is turned off.

That would mean I could turn off my phone at night, saving battery and not have to worry about it crashing (which my n95 occasionally does).

Should be a setting like it was on my K800i.

"Operate Alarm when turned off: Yes/No" - lovely.

Due to worries about not waking up and going to work I've never checked what the n95 does - does the alarm work when the phone is off (I'm running latest f/w)

yup.

Fone powers up... rings alarm, then asks if you want to snooze, or stop...

then asks if you want to turn the phone on... or leave it off.

Cool. I can turn my phone off at night then without risk of unexpected days of work...

I have a totally silent profile for nighttime, no vibrate, no sound, etc, but of course incoming emails still make it light up... and it's like a bl**dy lighthouse in a dark room...
