GPS Tracking

Did a search and not seen this mentioned anywhere (Could be wrong though)

Been playing with this free Software from http://3dtracking.net/ and I think its pretty cool 😎

Basically, you install the software onto your phone and then setup to use internal GPS or BT GPS, record some data, then login to their free site here (Click Me) and enter your IMEI as username and password (you can then change this).

Now depending on whether you chose "Live" or "Recorded" in the settings on the phone it will show your current location. if you chose recorded, you will have to click send on the options.

The website also keeps a history, great for tracking your movements!

Great thing is you can create your own web page and it will update from their site; instructions here (Click Me)

Their installation instructions are here (Click Me)

Done a test with it by having a little drive around using the internal GPS, then logging in and checking the history, the site uses google maps and is quite accurate. Only problem I could see is that on the settings in the phone you can set the time to update the server, I set 30 seconds and on the map it will show markers of the positions and then join them all up with a track in a straight line, this means it can look like you have driven through houses, fields, rivers etc.....

let me know what you guys think 😊

Id be very suspicious of anything that wants your IMEI number.Sure you can change it but who says it has not been logged for use elsewhere.
Whats wrong with Nokias own Sportstracker?

I agree regarding the IMEI, however, whats to say any other freeware/shareware/commercial app doesnt aquire your IMEI without your knowlege? at least they are up front about it, and it streamlines the signup process, no intervention from their part. Maybe this is why it is free.

As for Sportstracker, good piece of software, but not as flexible as this.

Damn! Im sounding like a sales rep for these guys 🙄

There are other ways they can get your IMEI, they don't strictly need to ask for it as part of the sign up process.

What do they do with it? Probably data mining, there is money to be had in tracking cell phones. This information is valuable to governments, advertisers, and disgruntled partners and ex's.

Anything like this that is free will generally have advertising somewhere at its core, money will be changing hands.
