Google is seeing a massive increase in mobile internet devices using their services (reports Reuters). And while the obvious answer is 'people are using the web on their phones!' I don't think that's the case. More like Google has signed enough deals for search plug-ins and 'go on, set Google as the browsers default homepage' that they are grabbing a bigger share of existing traffic.

It's strange how people are now often talking about Google and their deals to be the default engine... This trend started only after this post from Russel (http://www.russellbeattie.com/blog/the-google-myth-rolls-to-mobile)... it would be nice to mention this post as the source if that is the case...
Macboy, you're not even a competant troll. At least link to an article that claims the iPhone is great rather than one that includes significant apologies for it, e.g. "largely down to the flat rate data package that comes with the iPhone contract".
Remember the stats about Google getting more hits from iPhones than its market share would suggest? Few people mentioned that the iPhone was about the only phone at that point that had a Google search app that sent traffic to Google.
Like Ewan says, Google are buying themselves more mobile traffic. I suppose the ironic thing is that Google are currently a long way from being leaders in mobile advertising, so a lot of this traffic isn't making them money (yet).
