DEAD Nokia N95-1 Plum

23 replies · 9,670 views · Started 20 March 2008

Attempted to update the firmware using NSU and ended up bricking the phone. I did NOT unplug the unit during the update process, I followed every instructional step to the letter and it failed to update now the phone is stuck on the Nokia boot screen and will not completely boot. Please assist, I'm do not want to send the device to the UK might I add the service support for NOKIA SUCKS!

You don't need to send it to the UK. Nokia's warranty is worldwide so you can take to any service center in the world regardless of where you got the phone

It's a long shot...but worth a try.

Disconnect phone from computer and turn the phone off.
Then do a hard reset by holding the following keys down together:-

Green call key
* key
3 Key
Now press power key

Wait a few moments and see if that does the trick.
Good luck!

Can I butt in and ask what exactly is this 3 button thing supposed to do?

I assume it is a factory reset which means all files and settings will be lost?

Thanks everyone for the replies... I have searched for 48 hrs now and have made numerous calls. I purchased this device in SEPT 07 and I know it's still under warranty, I spoke to Nokia USA and called in to flagship store in Chicago, Il. Unfortunately the Nokia repair tech I spoke to advised me they do not have the software to flash my phone with the correct product code. And was kind enough to atleast empathyize. I'm willing to buy the tools to fix this just to get this problem fixed. Someone please help, btw I tried the format fix no luck I'll try again tho, Nokia guy said it was a bit trickey.

When you do the 'three finger trick' hold the buttons for as long as you can. You should get a 'farmatting phone' message and this is what you need for any chance of a recovery. Do this after having removed the battery for at least 20 seconds.
I would start by setting your phone product code to the correct one for your provider. The sofware you need is classed as underground and you will have to google to find it, but if you do and the phone is recognised and the internal data read then you stand a chance of recovery.
There are a number of threads on different forums about this which you should be able to find, but if not have a look at my blog about debranding and updating.

I haven't changed the product code and I did not mode it. Would the product code be listed on the back of the device? I bought a non-branded eu version and I live in America. The Nokia flagship store advised they would not accept the return unless it was shipped from UK to the UK. I called Nokia USA and they said the same thing but in a rude manner, they also said they couldn't help me and I need tomake an INTL call to Nokia EU.

I tried 3 key flashing , didn't work , are you sure it works ?? .... I think this is a bug with this new firmware, I did an update before about 3 times and the process was so easy and smooth , only this one it break when it start to make the installation "the phone turned off" , I charged the battery before I did the update .... I live in Canada anyone knows if the service center here can fix it ? .................................... I wish I didn't make this update.

as someone has said you could use Phoenix, i have never personally used this, but if nokia are being dicks and not allowing you to get a repair then try that.

shouldn't matter what country it came from or shipped to seeing as its a nokia phone!?!?

thanks for the info. , I'm trying to search this forum for a link to download Phoenix but can't find it, anyone can help me find it ? is there a steps on how to use it ? , if you don't like to post it here , just PM me .... thanks for the help but my phone died since yesterday.

it won't be linked on here due to it being a service centre only product. most likely to find it using Google.

umm.. Nokia Warranty is localised to the country where you have purchased it from. They do not have Worldwide warranty.

The first thing they ask you at the NokiaCare Centre is for your receipt and if it is not purchased in the country where the centre is at, they will immediately read out a scripted "We will have to charge you for it, sir since it was not purchased here"..

experienced this already three times.. the last was to try and replace my AD-44 handsfree as the stupid internal battery died... sigh..

Ok, I stand corrected but I have had my N95 repaired twice under warranty at my local service center and neither time have they requested any proof of purchase

that's totaly correct, I'm having the same issue, I live in Canada and Nokia N95 bought from US, I called Canada Nokia service center and they check if it is under warranty from the serial number, but they said because I bought it from US then you should ship it to them, and the funny part, Nokia US will not ship it back to my address in Canada because they accept to ship only to address in US ..... what a ...................

Just dead flash it using phoenix! :icon14:

can you please confirm that phoenix solved the problem of a dead N95 ? if yes, did you try to run it again on NSU ?

justnew wrote:if I use Phoenix version to flash a dead N95 can I later re-install the firmware from NSU ?

If its "alive" then the NSU will do an update/reflash of the same firmware.

😊

Thanks, all I need now is a confirmation that phoenix stuff can solve the problem of dead N95 , only the above user "UncleBooBoo" mention he did it for a dead phone, everyone else was talking on how to install it on a working N95.

There is a dead phone option in the phoenix software, so I assume it must have the ability to bring dead phones back to life!

That's correct, as pointed out by myself as well as in other threads it is possible to dead flash the N95 with phoenix.

It can be tricky with usb but it can be done!

What you got to lose by doing it? it's already broken! LOL
