N95 8gb - Garmin mobile xt??

7 replies · 19,919 views · Started 20 March 2008

Hi, is Garmin mobile xt available for the N95 8gig? as far as i can see it's only available [legitimately] on a sd card, which obviously the n95 8gb has internal memory. If i buy the memory card can it be transferred through my pc to the phone or is this prohibited by garmin? i don't want to go and buy the wrong thing.................

If this isn't an option i'mm looking at picking up a 2nd hand copy of Tomtom navigator 6 off ebay, any problems registering it if it's already been used??

Many thanks

Steve

Im afraid that Garmin do not offer anything for the 8GB. It is possible to put it on mass storage, as I have done but its then illegal I assume as you have broken the copy protection.

I have my bought copy still, and although I could sell it Im keeping it, for as long as I keep Garmin on my phone.

Very silly of Garmin really, but they havent made any effort to sort this.

If your thinking of tomtom, be aware....

It will NOT work with a seperate GPS reciever. Its not been patched yet to work with the internal reciever, and no-one has gotten this working.

If your buying a secondhand copy, be extremely careful. Its ok as long as they deactivate it and let tomtom know its moving to another device.

However, I would hold off a bit. Copilot is being released soon, and Im getting my hands on a copy today. They reckon its a tomtom killer, and from the screenies and features is does look good.

Thanks for the quick answers.... Well i guess i'll hold off for a little while and see what Copilot is like, are you planning on doing a short review of it to put up here? hope so, would like to know what you think of it.......

Thanks again for the info....

Steve

i don't see that you can get in any trouble for installing Garmin on your 8gb, I can't see what law they would apply to it? If you've paid for it then you're not stealing it from them, and by doing the little trick to get it to work you're not actually altering the program at all, just adding some files to the directory. No court would ever convict you of an offence for these two seeing as you've paid for the program. Who's the victim? Certainly not Garmin, they've made another sale!

Just re-read your reply.... So it won't work with the nokia ld-3w i bought? :frown: i thought it was just the internal gps on the phone it didn't work with.... oh well, thats a shame....

Hi Steve75

Sorry but bartmanekul is wrong Tom Tom 6 works fine on the N95 8GB with no problems at all and i think he meant to say it will not work with the Internal GPS, it works without any problems with an external GPS receiver. In fact IMO it works better than any programme with the Internal GPS dependant of course of having a decent GPS Receiver as they tend to be more powerful then the inbuilt GPS. I have never used the internal GPS on any of my devcies as my Holox BT-321 is both small and light with great battery life and hardly difficult to move between vehicles when needed, this is still my preferred method and will remain so for the time being.

Yeah I'm sure that was a typo, no one knows more about mobile Sat Nav software than bartmanekul.

Doh!

Yes, you are all right, I meant to say that tomtom wont work with the internal one.

Teach me to reply too fast. 🙄

I actually have installed copilot 7 on my phone, and Im going through the settings, of which there is a HUGE amount.

I now write reviews for nokiausers.net, and will be doing this one as soon as I have enough info. If people want, I'll post a link here when Im done?

Dont expect it for a week or so though, theres a lot to get through, and I want as much milage as possible to get a good idea of how good it is.
