So the sequel to Quake1 is finally online. Head to my homepage (in the signature) for downloads/installation instructions.
Time to dust Quake II cd:s
Thank you so much, its perfect. I dont mean to push my luck but any plans for Halflife......?
I remember a time not too long ago when I needed to buy something called a 3d card and more ram in my pentium I to play quake2. Once I forked out the 100 or so pounds for my voodoo1 3dfx card (and overclocked my 166mhz chip) I was the envy of the neighborhood since my pc was the first to run it.
Skip a few years
Now not only am I the envy of my neighborhood for having the best phone ever! but I am the envy of anybody that doesn't have an n95. ''Wow java 3d games you say?'', Well they do look alright on your SE or Samsung or Iphone (does this support java?), but can it run quake or quake 2 for that matter? - conversation ends in disbelief in full versions of ''PC'' games running on phone as well as they did on the PC only on my phone!!!! (add tv out for some serious jealousy)
All I can say is the person that ported it deserves every penny donated to him on his site. and a medal
ohinkka rulez!
Gonna try Q2 tomorrow.

Great!
Loved the game and nice work with the port. Works really well on n95-1. Didn't miss the hw-acceleration since it makes things too dark anyway (neverminding the platform).
Just a small but:
Phone controls are becoming more and more inadequate as your ports advance  .
More sofisticated games require more sofisticated input devices...
Not your fault of course but have you ever considered of coding a HID profile for bt mouse? Or even just a driver that lets u use mouse in quake?
I now it kind of diminishes the idea of mobile quake, but most of us would really enjoy playing quake I and II on a big screen with mouse and keyboard while staying at a hotel for example 😊
(I think that it'd might be a profitable $$$ idea as well)
Ps: I'm in for 50€ (at least) if u get the mouse support done.
Someone reported that the game might not work if the phone language is not english. So if you have problems to get this up and running, try to set the phone language to english aswell.
would HL1 work?
I thought Quake 2 was released as freeware? I can't seem to find it (legally) anywhere.

Confirmed. I'm using spanish language and when executing screen goes white but nothing happens. Changed language to english and the game works without problems.
Hope you can fix this soon, 😉

Works on phones with finnish language.
Works like a charm on N95 8GB with Polish language.
What/which are the optimal settings for Quake 2 on N95 8GB with horizontal mode?
Right now I've set opengles with 2048x1536 and it kick ass really, no lagging at all. But I wonder if this resolution is too high.
How can I find Quake 2 multiplayer servers?
And the last one. What control mapping do you suggest?
Thanks for bloody good work.

Actually the resolution does not make any difference, it's always the native resolution of the phone. 😉
Aye, I thought so. Ane rest of my questions? Does multiplayer mode really works?
I make a hard test, and asked other users and only on N95 Classic (N95-1) doesn't work unless you change language to english. N95 8GB and N82 don't have this problem.
About multiplayer, it seems you can't host a server, but you can join.
Do you know any still-working server? 😊
Just put "Quake II servers" on google without quotes, 😉
A bug fix release is now available, the language issue should now be gone. Also you can now set full screen antialiasing on with the OpenGL renderer (under "video" menu). See changelog for more details. Download from the usual place.

Damn.. Thanks 😉
What is fire? Tried every button. Apart from that it works great and its not too dark with hardware acceleration.

The middle button on the D-pad.
You can change all the key mapping yourself in the settings anyway.
Big thank you to Hinkka – I now have Quake 2 on my N95-1.
I had to upgrade to new v21 firmware (involved some messy debranding), find my old Quake 2 cd, play about with the PAK files, delete the config.cfg file that I copied from my computer when I shouldn’t have and endure a restart of the phone and 42 seconds (I counted) of black screen before I can play – but its worth it to play Quake 2 on the train!
The instructions on http://koti.mbnet.fi/hinkka/installation.html saw me thru.
If you have the N95 leave the video settings on Software - do NOT try OpenGL. It seems to ubiquitously crash since it need more free ram than the N95-1 has going.
If it is not working, try:
- Check you have copied the ‘baseq2’ folder from the Quake 2 cd or demo install (ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake2/q2-314-demo-x86.exe) to a quake2 folder on the root of your memory card.
- Install PIPS and Quake 2 for your phone from http://koti.mbnet.fi/hinkka/Download.html
- Change phone language to English
- Delete the E:\quake2\baseq2\config.cfg file
- Restart phone, run Quake 2, wait one (full) minute and press right soft key.
If you still have nothing, read E:\quake2\q2log.txt and see at the bottom of the file why it crashed.
Question for others running Quake2: how long does it take for you to load up Quake 2 and change levels? That long blank screen can get annoying… How often is it crashing for you guys?
How big are the PAK files you use? The demo seemed to crash just as much as the full version for me.
