hey guys... i've got a very annoying problem which i cant seem to fix. when i use Nokia Content Copier to backup my data, it says:
_________________________________________________
Backup log:
Date and time: 3/24/2008 16:03
Backup saved to file:
C:\Documen...\2008-03-24 Nokia N95 (5).nbu (1.1 MB)
The phone model-specific backup includes:
No data included in the phone model-specific backup
The following content can be copied to other phone models:
- 472 contacts
- 51 calendar items
- Text messages
- Multimedia messages
The following items could not be backed up:
___________________________________________________
which makes u think it all went well, right?? But no, i cant restore the backup into my phone! when i try to restore a backup, i get an error message saying:
"This file does not contain any data to be restored. Select another file"
The weird thing is this backup file is only about 1mb in size, whereas my last "successful backup" a few months ago was about 30mb. Anyone had a similiar problem? Any was of fixing this besides hard resetting the phone?
Thanks!

hi there... thanks for your prompt reply. i noticed another thing going funny with my n95 - i cant seem to connect to my home wlan, and sometimes it does randomly show as connected, but i cant properly connect it via the web browser, podcasting, etc. weird.
anyways, to answer your question:
pc suite version: 6.84.10.3. i know its not the most up-to-date version, but i like the sms viewer in this version whereas the Nseries (beta) did not have it.
content copier version 4.0. did a fresh reinstall of this app, without any luck. it has been giving me error when i try to shut the app.
pc is win xp sp2. pretty up to date.
anything else you need? my phone is n95-1 firmware v21 btw...
Hi jinx405,
Why dont you try to download the latest pc suite from nokia site, which is of version 6.85.4.1... You will have your SMS viewer in this version too.. As per the log you have posted, i think Content copier had backed up everything right?

So as per the above logs, it seems that every items have been backuped i guess... Are you trying to restore the items from the same to which you have backuped or to any other phone, if yes, please do mention about the same?
yeah i'll give that a go.. i'll try downloading the latest pc suite when i get home from work later today.
yeah, technically, it should have backed up everything according to the log, but it looks like i cant restore what has been backed up. i tried restoring with the nseries pc suite, and i got a confirmation saying everything was backed up except phone settings, but my phone is still in the state it was previously in-nothing was restored.
yeah, its same phone backup to the same phone... also, its within the same firmware as well. somrething really odd is going on..
Hey,
Is there any ways you can send the backedup file to this forum somewhere so that the same can be checked with the other phones? Why dont you try to save only contacts alone n try with content copier?
send the backup file on the forum? hmm... isnt that kinda unsafe, since all my content is available for anyone?
i have a feeling that something is not right with my phone itself... its device specific settings. i tried only backing up contacts, and it took about 5 minutes to back up the "device specific" settings and it gave me an error. again.
have u seen this before? anyone else with any other ideas?? i want to update my firmware but i cant backup my contacts and messages! its sooo annoying!
hey everyone... i recently posted a thread at http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/71122/ seeking help... for some weird reason my n95-1 does not have any "device-specific settings" and hence, my contacts/messages can't be backed up. cricfancy(thanks!) has given me a few ideas but none of them worked! anyone else have different suggestions on how to fix this?
Thanks!
copy your contacts to your memory card .. thats contacts / options / copy - To memory card
now for messages
open messaging / options / settings / other / Memory in use .. Change from phone memory to memory card .. at this point you're offered the chance to copy the messages to memory card .. do it 😊
Hope that helps .. once you've got your messages / contacts backed-up .. UPGRADE! 😊
What is your phone's firmware version? U can type *#0000# from your phone.
There are some ways for backing up your important data like your calendar and address book than using nokia pc suite app.
As data is more important than anything in a mobile device such as cellphone, laptop or pda.
For best practices, use your default application in your desktop (PC or Mac) such as outlook (for pc) or ical and contacts (macosx). I never trust nokia backup software.
Always have a habit in backup your data daily.

ahahha it works!!!! i finally managed to back up my data properly and restore it after updating my phone software!!
edgedale:thanks for the tip, i did try backing up using outlook 2007 as well, but it gave me an error with syncing as well. not to worry, i think its all good now..
the cure for my problem: i reinstalled pc suite into my work laptop, since it didnt have anything nokia in it. backed up there, and even though it took unnaturally long, it finally worked. so its all good 😊 thanks for your advice guys.. especially cricfancy!
ahhh i didnt know that you can copy messages like that... thanks for the tip!
i actually managed to fix my problem - i reinstalled pc suite into a diff computer (that didnt have any nokia software previously) and it managed to back up! it took kinda long, but it finally did! and now i'm sailing with ver 21!! im still mucking about with it, but the music quality is a significant improvement!! thanks for your help 😊
