Series 60 is now so capable in terms of its office, connectivity and multimedia capabilities that to continue the development of another OS which, aside from its different layout and perculiarities offers little extra would not be cost effective.
The abundance of Series 60 software means that its use within the new communicators is surely a good thing thing overall. We are highly unlikely to see, for example, Flash Lite 3 or Opera Mobile 9.5 on Series 80.
There are aspects of Series 80 which will be missed, and which perhaps should be adapted to Communicator devices but overall I think it's a good step and a logical one at that.
Hello,
I've had two s80 based device befor I bought my E90 and shocked when i read in a forum that the s80 is over. That time it wasn't any E90 rumor on the web, that time E90 was a plan only.
Then, when I heard about the E90 and that it suns on S60, I felt much better.
The first reason, why the S80 project stopped is that the S60 platform developed faster and became the same smart like the S80 I go further it became smarter, faster and opened new features like GPS, quality imaging, 3G, Flash Lite etc.
After that it's logical, that there is no need for two platform with same features.
Nokia did the right decision. The E90 became the fastest communicator ever, it's compatible with the 90 percent of s60 software, got 3rd party office suite wich is office 2007 compatible already, A-GPS, full screen video playback, excellent imaging capabilities, full java support, excellent Browser etc.
The E90 is almost one year old, and there is still no one other device on the market wich gives all of this for you, maybe the SE XPERIA is the real competitor, but it does not have 16 M colour display wich is a shame compared to that since last year all the new S40 and S60 Nokias and some other brands have.
The E90 do has menu button, one on the cover and one inside, and has two own keys as well.
Cheers,
swingerman,
I mean the menu bar on the top of the screen that comes when you press on the menu button.
any way, Thanks all for information and i really missed the s80 😊.
thanks again
