Just wondered if anybody knows when CoPilot Live 7 will be available for the Symbian platfom (specifically the N95 8GB version).
I have been hunting around on the web, and found details last October about it being released, but when I go to the CoPilot website, it only seems to be available for Windows Mobile Devices.
Can anyone help.
Cheers,
Albie
April. Im using a copy now.
Hi there, if it is not available till April, how come you are using a copy now?
Sort of, I review satnavs for symbian. Im currently writing the review for copilot 7.
Is there any signs yet of CoPilot 7 for Symbian?
Actual release date - unsure. No updates yet, so stays the same as I was first told, April.
My review will be out shortly, would have been sooner but unfortunatly I cannot get hold of the copilot manager (ala tomtom home), but time rolls on so my review shall have to go without it.
Features dont boast much morethan route 66 which works great.
Won't be seeing anyone rush out to get this ....
Been using route66 more recently, and Im thinking the routing isnt that much improved at all. Id prefer using copilot 7 at the moment.

Im using route 66 v7 ... which is better than v8 in my opinion.
Worth testing out copiliot when it comes out ...
Eeekk, V7 was dreadful, the routing was what started me off in my symbian satnav search all that time ago (and, incidently what brought me to these forums).
Copilot is good, but I have to say Id stick with Garmin.
Ive used route66 v7 in north america, canada, and about 5 countries in europe. It has NEVER let me down. Even my tomtom let me down.
v8 was atrocious
Garmin was not that good in routing, reception or in the GUI
Hmm, thats not my expirences. Route66 (V7 and 8) always seems to be taking the mick with the routes its suggesting.
So much so, I constantly check the settings.
I have found Garmin much much better in routing - reception is a phone issue - and yes, the UI is ugly. But, I feel its functional.
Its all subjective of course, but on many of my routes I know the way, and seeing that its taking the wrong way round is much eaier then. Nearly all satnavs will get you there, but not many people are aware when its taking you round the houses a bit.
I agree with you on the "round the houses" part as route66 v7 sometimes takes me on the longer route. This is quite rare though and does not bother me ...
Love R66v7
Just to update anyone who is interested.
My copilot review will not be out yet, but the reason for this is that copilot have contacted me about an issue I raised with them. They have corrected this issue, and are possibly adding some functions I suggested.
I am not sure if this will adversely affect the release date, but I shall let people know if I hear anything.
On the whole, its looking extremely positive as they are clearly listening to suggestions seriously.
Oh, and heres some pricing I have been given:

Evening guys.
I'm a bit confused. If you go onto the alk website and check compatibility for Copilot 7 with the N95 8GB, it says "Congratulations, your device is compatible. Please note you will need a memory card reader to transfer the software form the supplied memory card".
Does this mean I can go out and buy it now?
Cheers

It does, they havent told me that its been released, and I cant actually see it for sale anywhere yet (preorder only).
I'll ask them today.
Copilot 7 should start appearing in Tmobile stores very soon, and also other places like Amazon, expansys etc.
However, beware as although the new releases cater for both (symbian and WM), theres still going to be a lot of WM only versions knocking about.
So beware of which one it is when buying.
hi bartmanekul
have you released your review of the copilot software for symbian? i can't seem to find your review. If you have not released it yet can you atleast tell us whether you have given it the thumbs up? More over has anyone yet got their hands on the new copilot 7 and tested it on a nokia n95 gb?
thanks
Bit hard to say at the moment. Im getting the new copy Monday, as the version I have has an issue with voice prompts.
There was a gap inbetween the instructions, and it was annoying to say the least.
But I mentioned it to copilot and they have fixed it, hence sending me the new version. And also possibly why its a little later than they said (ok I might have made it later, but its much better than having that bug in it, trust me).
So kudos to them for doing that, not often you will get a company doing that just before release.
I am also getting the copilot desktop software (like tomtom home), which is a rather essential part of my review.
Apologies for not putting the review out, but I cant do one on a version that has a major bug, and also without the support software.
As for thumbs up - yes, but Im still in 2 minds if I prefer it or not over Garmin, at the moment theres plus and minus points for each. I'll know more once I have used copilot central (the PC software). Would I buy it as a satnav package - yes, it'll definatly get you there. Saved my ass in Reading in fact. But would I buy it over other satnavs? Not sure yet.
Personal preferances about satnavs vary immensely, so its worth waiting to see whats better and whats not.
Hi bartmanekul
i am slightly worried now. anyone who has got used to tomtom would find the garmin xt user interface far less appealing and a lot less functional. No preplanning, no navigate to point on map, navigating to address is a pain, re-routing takes atleast 7 seconds and browsing the maps is difficult to point out just a few. From reading other reviews of copilot 7 i got the impression that the user interface and functionality is better than tomtom . But if you say that you are still undecided between copilot 7 and garmin xt then i do not know what the hype is all about.
but thanks for the heads up. i will wait a bit before throwing money at this software.
thanks man.
Whoa, Garmin has all those things you mentioned. It has an itinery of routes/instructions etc, which you can view and change, you can pick any point on the map to navigate to or add to favourites.
I find the Garmin UI ugly to say the least, but once your used to it its functional.
Im thinking Garmin has a bad rap because many people see the UI and dont look into the functions it has. I think it has more than TomTom actually.
Copilot 7 has a much nicer UI, but doesnt have some things Garmin does. It doesnt have a peer point function for example - the ability to send a navigation point from your phone to a friends.
Copilot has free speedcams, but charges you for traffic.
Garmin is the opposite, charges you for speedcams, but traffic is free.
As I said, its really about personal choice. For most, free speed cams sounds the better option, but imo Id rather have free traffic, as you can use your own custom POI for speed cameras.
So, best to wait for the review (where hopefully I cover everything), and then decide.
I was also hoping for a lot more with CoPilot 7, I do find Garmin tricky to use sometimes.
For instance, travelling back from Manchester to Cardiff on Friday, the M6 was closed from junction 15-14, so wanted to find an alternative route. Tried to use the Detour option (which I presume is a sort of via option), but it would not allow me to put an address in, it gave me options for detour in 1 mile, 2mile etc, or via the route ... which for the M6 meant the whole of it.
I ended up switching on my external GPS, and using TomTom, as setting up the detour (via) Shrewsbury was a breeze to input.
Maybe I am not looking in the correct area.
Also, you mention about the Traffic option, it is enabled on mine, but it did not pick up the delays on the M6, and when I do go into the Traffic bit of Garmin Online, it says "Detail Maps Don't Support Traffic" ... what's that all about.
Seems alot of money for software a memory card that costs less then a tenner online. For 90 you can get a decent standalone unit with a much bigger screen. 90 seems a lot for a convience of only having one device you can keep in your pocket.
Is there any screen shots available and how fast does the screen update? Garmin has its moments of slow screen refresh especially with low signal.

A decent standalone unit? Which one is that then?
I have seen a fair few budget dedicated units, but none from any of the big companies. And in my expirence, the budget ones are just rubbish.
But if you want to go down that line, you can get many java satnav solutions for free, as long as you have a good data tariff. However my opinion on those is like the budget dedicated units - generally rubbish.
I had brought a copy of Copilot 7 for my Pocket PC, since I sold my Pocket PC and moved to E90, I didn't think I could use the same version on my E90.
Yesterday, I called ALK and the support team e-mailed me a download link for the software for series 60.
After installing the software, the maps for the Pocket PC version works fine.
So, even if you buy and existing CoPilot 7 for Pocket PC, you can always get the software from ALK's website.
Thats good to know. Copilot are probably the best satnav company supportwise so far.
The review is done by the way, just waiting for it to be put up now.
Hi,
Any idea about when your review will be available, please?
If I get to see it in the next few hours it will help with the go/no go decision on buying it over the weekend.
For me the Garmin XT product has ruled itself out of play simply by not being loadable onto my existing memory card. I have a lot of apps on a 4gb card in my N95 and do not want to be swapping cards - and no doubt, losing them.
Many thanks.
Sorry, its out of my hands at the moment, I gave it to the guy at Nokia users.net yesterday but I presume hes busy because I have not heard anything back yet.
However I am setting up my own site, and since I said I would have the review out and Im not sure whats going on with Nokia users, Im attempting to very badly hack this together, which isnt easy when you have never published anything to the web before I can tell you.
I dont know when the nameserver changes will become active anyway, but as soon as its done and operational I'll post here.
To give you some idea of the scale of the task Im having to look up such things as how to get a £ sign in html!
I'll do my best though.
Loneranger, if you need it asap PM me your email address and I'll send the review to you in .Doc format.
