Nokia 6300 - Symbian OS?

I think i know the answer here, but wanted to bounce this question around

I'm looking at a Nokia 6300 for the missus to use, and notice that ir runs the
Serias 40 operating system, one i've not heard before, and it doesnt appear on
any forum on here, so what exactly is it??

Is it some cut down mini-OS, and will i be able to run my S-60 stuff that i have
on my 6630 and soon to be N73 on it or not?

yeah, kinda.

The series 40 uses a 'simpler' OS than the higher end 60/80 and dont really support true multitasking. They only support MIDlets/java apps too so you caant cross run your S60 apps.
