Any way to stop the after boot 'menu jump'?

I don't know how else to describe this. When I switch on the phone, all the standby icons load etc and I start to move across to an app on the 7 standby buttons and it sort of flashes and resets the cursor back at the first standby app.

It's annoying. Why doesn't it just not let me press anything until its finished booting?

Is there any way to counter this?

That's really strange because I noticed it and wondered if it was just me; you're the first person I know of who has actually pointed it out. It appeared after v20 (I think) fixed the missing keypress bug. I don't know if the two are related.

This is annoying, I have just learned to live with it. I find it also does it when you open the menu for the first time after a reboot too. Sometimes I open the menu and cycle to an icon then just as I click, it jumps to the 'middle' icon and I end up running that instead. GRRR.

Yes, that too! It's pretty Mickey Mouse stuff. I'm surprised it hasn't been addressed as it is very frustrating. Hopefully the forthcoming v20 firmware for 8GB will fix it.

neilhoskins - have you upgraded your N95 to V21 - if so, I take it it is still there?

It suddenly strikes me as slightly odd that we all seem to accept the problem of frequent re-boots, and don't complain about the re-boots themselves but a small detail that results from them. We've all come to accept frequent re-boots as the price of bleeding-edge technology.

I never have to reboot. But I do turn my phone off each night and it annoys me each morning when it does the stupid menu thing.

No joy on the latest N95 firmware then. Doesn't look good for the 8GB either then. Ho hum - The futures bright, the futures flaky...

I don't often have to reboot. I normally do it once every few days but just becasue I am turning it off. It hasn't 'crashed' on me for quite a while actually

Well seeing I never reboot my phone that much its never been an issue for me.

I do notice it refreshes not long after boot but im used to waiting a bit until its finished booting because of the old "Sim Registration Failed" bug.

...dunno if this helps but I cured this problem on my N95 (non 8GB though) by reloading the firmware and NOT restoring a backup, but reloading everything manually

evilweasel - that is interesting. Do you definitely not get the jumping thing now? Might try a reload in that case.

...so far no jumps or ghost cursor movements since reload :icon14:
........ reloading manually is a pain in the neck though :icon13:

Thanks for the info. I'll upgrade to N95 8GB v20 in the next few days (whenever it is released) and see if it does it then before I add my contacts/messages etc
