Marks left by silicon case/how to clean N95 8GB plastics...?

20 replies · 6,000 views · Started 10 April 2008

I've had my N95 8GB in a silicon case since purchase. I took it off last night to fit a new screen guard and noticed markings on the plastic.

I can only assume these are from muck getting under the silicon and rubbing against the plastic.

My question: what is the best thing to clean the N95 8GB with? Worried about using a detergent, however mild, in case it damages it...

was it you Ben that was asking why noone was mentioning silicon cases in that thread recently about that nokia leather case?! 😉

I would worry about moisture more than a mild detergent... but at the end of the day if you got a baby wipe kind of thing thats normally the easiest to use... that or say ... a screen wipe...

Or your t-shirt...

if that doesn't shift it, get old of your misses nail varnish remover, that cleans most things i have 😊

you can always replace all the parts, either the front screen, or the black back, or camera lens, from buying parts over at cnn.cn. they prices are not too bad i guess. OEM i think.

😉 yes, and the irony isn't lost on me. Thing is, I had a silicon case on my SE phone for two years and never got this problem. So, whether it's a case of 'all silicon cases are equal but some are more equal than others' (for the Orwell fans amongst you) or the N95 8GB plastics are particularly susceptible to marking, I'm not sure.

I'll dilute some nail varnish remover and try that..

😉 I had a silicon case on my old ipod, kept it safe and tidy... so I know they arent all bad too. Not too sure about nail varnish remover ... Id stay away from anything like that...

let us know tho. And if you have any pics (before/after)

Not had chance yet - very wary of using the neat nail varnish remover though - thought that kind of stuff can melt plastic?

Mr Moderator Bartman have you hovered your mouse over that pic of yours LOL
fancy calling Barry that 😉

John...

I have to agree completly, WD40 is great for things like that, when I got my Igo keyboard it was what i used to get rid of that crap that the label they had stuck across the keys left behind and yes I dont mind the smell of it, far better than nail varnish remover and less likely to cause any damage
