Hello, i live in france, i have buy the SGH-I550W in China, and in the phone the software : LANDMARKS, GPS DATA, GOOGLE MAPS, don't works !!
The screen tell me always : NO CONECTION !
And in Google Maps, when the software seeking for gps satellites, never one gps satellite where detected !
Can you help me please ! What is data account it is needed to be created, and what is the positioning server settings in the phone ??
Hello. The positioning server settings are those that enable or disable the GPS. To enable the internal GPS click the GPS button on the phone keypad, the GPS DATA screen comes up, click OPTIONS, scroll to and select POSITIONING SETTINGS. You have three choices. Highlight INTEGRATED GPS, click options, enable. So of the three options only the top 'Integrated GPS' is selected. The internal GPS is now active. Go Back to POSITION. GO OUTSIDE - WAIT - it takes a long time for the GPS to work the first time. Leave your phone and go and have a cup of tea 😊. When you get back - the positioning and accuracy should all be shown.
The first time I used it it took half an hour. I am using Garmin MobileXT software and it picks up satellites outside withing a minute - inside is ok but takes longer or not at all. The more I have used it the faster it has got.
For any software on this phone to use GPS - e.g. Google Maps, Garmin etc, the GPS must be enabled as described above. Once it is enabled - just by ticking Integrated GPS, you can exit the phone GPS. When you start Google Maps or Garmin it activates the GPS automatically it AS LONG AS IT IS LEFT TICKED (ACTIVATED) in the settings.
I couldn't get the NETWORK BASED gps to work. I tried all sorts. It is not a Nokia so cannot use their server. I have also used the phone with a Globalsat BT-359 - bluetooth gps. It is brilliant, super fast pick up of satellites, very accurate, and lasts for a whole day at least on one charge. Also used this same GPS with a Nokia E51 and Garmin MobileXT. Brilliant. And I don't work for Globalsat - just tried a few and it is good. To use that you would enable Bluetooth Gps and disable Integrated GPS.
Okay thanks you very much !!!
What is your positionning server adress in your SGH-I550 samsung phone please ???
h-slp.mnc001.mcc530.pub.3gppnetwork.org
but that won't be right for you. Look here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code for mnc and mcc numbers according to your area and network and change them in the server string - so your mcc for France will be 208. After all that is said I have not been able to get mine to work. It does not cnnect to any server at all - it doesn't try to connect as when I look at the log - data there is nothing there. There seems to be much confusion between AGPS and Network Based Positioning. I don't think they are the same as the Nokia N82 has both.
I've got myself an SGH-i550W recently ant cannot figure out the GPS, can anyone help me out... tried things mentioned here, does not work with both "Integrated GPS" and "Network based" enabled....
when I go to GPS data, it says "Calculating GPS Data" and that's it, nothing after that.....
