I've had a quick search but couldn't seem to see anything. Can the orange light under the lens be turned of when recording video?

nope, although there is a hardware mod guide on here somewhere. but invalidates your warranty
most use a bit of black tape.

hardware mod requires some delicate soldering... not difficult.
Easiest thing tho is tape and a craft knife.
I've done the hardware mod and all it requires is a sharp knife and a steady hand.
