Nokia has today announced its first non-Nseries N-Gage-compatible phone, the 5320 XpressMusic. It's a music-oriented phone with 24 hours of playback time, a dedicated audio chip for better sound quality, and a high speed USB port for quicker music transfers from your computer.

Just one button??? Why Nokia?

...because it's better than no buttons at all, which is what most phones have above the screen? 😊

To be fair, most of the games released so far only use one of the N81's buttons, Creatures Of The Deep for example, and even COTD makes gaming button use optional as you can use the d-pad button instead.

It may be that Nokia's experimenting with what is actually needed for controlling phone games. Personally I think the d-pad on its own could be enough, though it's more comfortable to hold the phone horizontally while playing.

However, if one button isn't enough there's always the upcoming N96 which has an N81-style slide-out panel for gaming and multimedia.

Having said all that, what worries me more is the keypad getting in the way of the d-pad when you're using it in horizontal mode.

The N81's keypad slides out of the way in horizontal mode so it's pretty comfortable to hold, but the 5320's keypad is fixed.

It probably won't be a terrible problem, but it's worth bearing in mind.

Actually... there ARE two buttons on the 5320, see the updated article for a photo of both of them! 😊
