Its a weird fuzzing echo sound..
When I came to the N95 from a Motorola V635, I thought there was terrible hissing on the N95's earpiece speaker and also through a headset - electronic noise. I originally tried taking it back to T-Mobile, but the assistant there first couldn't hear any problem, then we discovered that both his own N95 and the store's demo N95 both had exactly the same issue. I've stopped noticing it after using the N95 for months now.
I think the audio quality on the N95 is just very poor, but perhaps people don't notice unless they're moving from a phone with better audio quality.
It,s only just started.. Going to the service centre soon.. It,s bad

I used to have the same problem with my N70. Sometimes when I made/received a call I could hear myself sound all muffled and distorted through the phone's earpiece as I talked. The person at the other end would also notice that I sounded muffled when they spoke to me. A quick hangup and redial always fixed this problem, but it was rather annoying nonetheless.
I debranded it and upgraded the firmware, and I haven't had the problem since 😉

I don't think that this is what the original poster is referring to, but I agree with you. As soon as the sound hardware is activated (e.g. when a game starts, but before it has started playing music and should therefore be silent) there is a very noticeable hiss.
Also, the poor lack of volume control in Java and even n-gage games is very bad. For example, Asphalt 3 (n-gage) has a very flexible volume control that looks like it should offer any volume you want but in reality the N95 jumps from "quite loud" to "off" when trying to use it. My current workaround is a standard headset (no microphone) with a volume control built in, but this shouldn't really be required for what is allegedly a great multimedia device.
Is this the case with all Symbian phones, or is it possible to get better volume control on other devices?
Suck then blow hard into the earpiece (the tiny mesh at the top of the phone) several times.
This will reshape the internal speaker.
had the same problem, a screeching sound in the speakers when on the phone, until I realized I was speaking to my mother-in-law. I just hung up, and it solved the problem!:icon14:
