Check your speed on www.dslreports.com (obviously on your mobile). I had my service uncapped by o2. I think you may have to be a 'select' customer though as they tried fobbing me off until they realised i am one.

just on the phone to customer services now. They have removed the 3g cap no issues, you do not have to be a select customer at all.

If they were limiting it so much how come video calling works fine?

Hmmm, just got off the phone with o2 who said that I have been uncapped all along?? Something smells fishy! The guy said something about connection ratings from 1 to 6, and that I am already on 6, the highest (supposedly):con?

....I got the line that there was no such thing as capping, then I pointed out various web referrences detailing about the cap and after a lot of 'there is no such thing as capping' he came back (after consulting 'a' department with the line that phones were capped as they could not utilise the speeds that say a data card could (not sure, but I think this bull)...he then conceeded that he would fill a form out to remove any capping.....he also said he would fill out a form for himself while he was at it to see if he got any faster speeds 😉

www.dslreports.com/mspeed to run speed tests on your mobile browser!! choose the 5k file so it kicks you into the larger 1MB file and run that one. you'll know if its capped or not. i'm getting 1.2Mbps here in cali USA.

I got 3.5G for the first time on my Pay and Go o2 N95 today when I was in a pub in Stockport 😃

I want to call o2 to uncap me but I'm worried they'll decline to do it cos I'm not on a contract with them. I know, I'm still a paying customer but o2 may not see it that way.

I take it before my uncapping I have been doing video calling on 128kb???

i would guess that video calls use a different connection than the "O2 Internet" one.

i might be wrong though.

It's entirely possible, but besides the quality of video calls has never been brilliant and the resolution is pretty low so it wouldn't have been a problem on a 128kb connection.

What speeds are people getting before and after being uncapped?

I'm not sure if I've ever been capped...... I just tried the 1mb dslreports test and got 1.1mbps on a 3.5g connection in London.

Took me two calls to get the cap taken off, first call I was told they had only ever capped "pay as you go" second call was told that the only reason I was getting a low bit rate was because of my position, I asked again if the would check to see if there was a cap on my acount and low and behold turned out there was 😊.
Before getting the cap removed was getting 116kb/s to 166kb/s on edge, 111kb/s to 128kb/s on 3G, now getting up to 300kb/s on 3G and the signal isnt great down here in devon/cornwall

cities, bradford, leeds, sheffield etc

Looks like I need to move back up t yorkshire, lucky if you can get a signal full stop down here never 3g or 3.5g only placed I got 3.5 was Bristol.
