I configured POP3 client for retrieving Gmail emails on my N95. I am in a fix what am I going to have additional benefits if I configure IMAP4 client on my N95 for Gmail. Please tell me which is the better option, POP3 or IMAP4? And what are the advanges/ dis-advanteges of POP3 and IMAP4.

I prefer IMAP for phones, but it's individual so use what you feel is best for you.

With POP the emails you read are moved from the email server and to your phone.

With IMAP the emails are never moved, but stays on the email server. You can also log into the email account from different places at the same time (both computer and phone, for example), if the other place (computer) use IMAP aswell.

I got two private emails. One for shopping (ebay, paypal and similiar things), which use POP3 as I only check it at my computer. The other one is personal stuff, and I read it both from my computer and phone so it's IMAP on both.

IMAP with gmail is by far better than pop. just use gmail help page and setup IMAP. it keeps all your messages sync'ed regardless of where you check. and IMAP supports IDLE so you will get emails in real time to your phone if you choose to leave the inbox connected. IMAP all the way!

Can you delete email with IMAP gmail on Symbian though? It seems to require moving a message between folders. Last time I looked, this didn't seem possible (after the ROM update, my email account settings were not restored for some reason and I haven't re-entered them yet).

i certainly delete emails everyday. just click C button and choose phone or phone and server. i dont use the labels on my phone. but there is a way to get to your gmail labels, deep in the settings its called subscriptions, which loads up all your labels/folders.
