is this for real? i havent checked my n95-4 for firmware update. but i will make a post over at hofo and see. please i hope this is for real😊
I'm not in the US but I have an RM-421 here. It still says that no newer firmware than 1.2.011 is available...maybe I have a different product code, not sure.
Just as above, I do not have a new firmware available. 😞
I'm in the US, and NSU says my 1.2.011 is up to date. It seems improbable that this phone will get a "major update" considering it's only been out a little over a month.
This would be really sad if nokia released a new firmware for N95-4, when they still haven't release a firmware for the n95-3 yet.
Dont know if my N95 8GB is "America" version (phone code 0556218) but only yesterday the new firmware become avalable! (Pharmack from Brasil)

i have a n95-4 in toronto and tried to update just now with no luck. it says that i have the most recent version
ok... this is EFFING ridiculous. If the N95-3 doesn't get a 'huge' firmware update in the next 3 months, I am going to send my n95-3 shatter bits to Nokia AND brute force call their customer service lines.
Damn! Nothing yet either - have US N95-4 8GB from Dell....tells me I am up-to-date! Argghhh. Hopefully this will appear in the next day or so - man!
Agreed
I'm sick of them ignoring my N95-3. The current firmware isn't even good enough for Ngage and both games that I ended up buying on it just quit as soon they get through the demo part of the app...if it wasn't for Handy Taskman and Profiles I'd probably be posting this on my Blackjack II instead. My N95-1 is faster, has just as good battery life, and can open almost as many apps because of the proper attention that it receives. If you aren't going to support a high-end device after the customer purchases it, then don't launch it.
End Rant.
Mr. Litchfield, I'd like to know who is your source on this supposed N95-4 firmware update. There is no update, and now you got all the N95-3 owners whining and complaining like the babies that they are. I have both N95-3 and N95-4 and the N95-3 out performs the N95-4....it just doesnt have a bigger screen and its not black (I dont think a firmware upgrade will fix either shortcomings). The N95-3 was pretty complete when it got released (no auto rotation, direct paging, and no web 2.0), the firmware upgrade for the N95-1 was to catch up with the N95-3. So for all you N95-3 owners dont think that youre missing out on anything. Plus emtube still works on the N95-3 and does not work anymore on the N95-4.
there is no way the -3 firmware is better than the latest firmware. it is missing demand paging, flash lite 3, etc.
so anyway, maybe steve's source was intended for the n95-2 which was sold in the USA as n95 8GB NAM, which should be illegal and nokia should get fined out the a$$. how can they get away with releasing a UK phone in the USA as "NAM" version, when they damn well know that they are going to release the n95-4 with real US 3G a few months later? that is just beyond wrong. so i'm sure that my n95-4 will never get a firmware update, just like the -3 still hasnt gotten a firmware update 6 months after release. nokia i hope you are reading this.
Classy, but my point is just what LAphoneguy mentioned. I expect the N95-1 to get an upgrade first due simply to the fact that there are more of them, but to me optimizations like improved java response, search integrated into active standby, and most importantly (to me): the improved camera speed on the N95-1 are quite important and I would very much like to see them implemented on my device weeks, not months, after being made available on the N95-1.
the -3 firmware is better....demand paging helps improve battery life, but the -3 has a bigger battery capacity already. And I think the devices with Flash Lite 3 will not work with emtube (which I think is the best 3rd party app out there), thats why emtube wont work on my N95-4 but will on the my N95-3. Thats why my AT&T sim card is in the -3 and not the -4. Plus it took a whole year before -1 got all those firmware updates, -3 has only been released for about 6 months now. If you were a good doctor, you would have more patients =)
Quick one while I know other US readers are here because I don't think I ever found the answer, but what were the changes from v10 to v11 for the -3?
there were basically no improvements from v10 to v11 other than "stability" fixes.
regarding the -1 getting an update 1 year later, yes this happened. but once it did, the 8GB got it too. the point is once the demand paging is developed, it should be updated across all variants. as was said before, its only a matter of moving a few decimal places around to throw the same firmware onto the -3. its the same phone with just 850/1900 instead of 2100 3G. so how long can it take to update the firmware? mayeb a week from a few software people? nokia must purposely be excluding this update.
Very confusing. As the -4's initial firmware came with everything but autorotation and geotagging it can't really be that big of a update. And nothing for the -3 right.
"My only issue is that I have to shake the phone slightly to change from portrait to landscape. It's not automatic as I thought it might be."
Make sure you rotate through 90 degrees at least from whatever starting angle.
