The wired headset that came with my Nokia N95 8GB has stopped working on the left ear. Grrrr. Anyone know if this is a common fault and if there is any quick things I can check?
I did contact Nokia who advised me to send it to a care centre who in turn told me to send it with a proof of purchase (which I don't have as I bought the phone from someone who had it as an unwanted O2 upgrade) so don't mind butchering it up before I have to just buy another.
There are multiple sources for this issue.
First, try a different pair of headphones and see if the issue is still present or try your headset in another device (IE portable cd player).
If the problem is your headset, don't use that headset.
If the left ear still does not work on a different pair of headphones, make sure the adapter is fitted into the jack properly. Look into the jack and make sure the first prong is visible.
Try a different application on your phone to see if it is application related.
Try selected "headphones" rather than "headset" on your device when you attach your headset to rule out the possibility of compatibility issues. Also, if you are connecting your headphones with the media extension, try not using that extension.
If this still does not work, try reloading the software (firmware) through nokia software updater and check if that rectifies the problem.
If there is still no fix to your problem then you may have a prong bent in within your headphone jack or there may be a wiring issue within your device. There may also be an issue with the sound board or sound board controller within your device.
I hope you find a fix!
Hi Waxup, should have said in original post - my ipod earphones work fine in the N95 8GB so it's not the phone at fault. Also, if I take just the top part of the headset (AD-54 the section without the play/pause controls) it also plays through fine. Seems like a problem with the bottom section.
Glad you narrowed that down. So the problem could be a short within that piece.
Mine acted up once before, it became unresponsive and then the phone was not recognizing it at all as the headset. I got it working by unplugging the headphones and plugging them back in and then changing the default connection type in my phone to headphones and then back to headset and it works fine every since.
Sorry I can't help you much more in this issue, it's probably a short within that section of your headset.
