Long time reader first time poster so please don't bite!
I have all my music files stored in E:/Music, however I also have a few custom tones stored as mp3s in E:/Sound Clips. This includes files that come as part of installed applications, e.g. a fring alert tone. Is there a way to stop these showing up in the music player application?
There is a similar issue with the gallery application, in that it displays a load of icons installed in the Garmin folder. Am I likely to be able to solve this in the same way? I'm sure I remember reading a thread about this before I got the phone but I've had a good search on here/AV Forums/Google and haven't found it so would really appreciate some help.
the work around for the music list is not easy i dont think. i dont even know what it is.
but about the gallery, you can go ahead and delete those garmin files from your gallery, and garmin still works fine. i deleted them all and its been fine still.
I made the Garmin files hidden (from my PC using data connection mode) just to be on the safe side and it worked - nothing extra showing up in Gallery, Garmin still running fine. No joy for sound files though - if I make them hidden then they can't be selected as tones any more. Anyone got another idea for this one?
Short of getting another music player, like LCG Jukebox where "other folders" don't come into the equation, I think you're scuppered. The in-built music player scans the whole memory for music files.
I have this problem too. My ringtones are included in the Music Player. This is my workaround for it:
- Let Music Player scan for audio files
- Make a new playlist (call it whatever you like)
- Add all the audio files to that playlist
- Sieve through the playlist and delete any ringtones or text message alerts (this only removes them from the playlist)
This way, when you go to the Music Player to play any music, you just use the playlist instead.
When adding new music in the future:
- Let Music Player scan for audio files again
- Go to the "Recently Added" playlist and select all the new songs
- Add them to your custom playlist
I know it's a bit of a farce but AFAIK that's the easiest way around it... short from not having any extra ringtones or message alerts on your phone.
Hope this helps.
[EDIT] 500 POSTS!!! 😊
Congratulations on the 500th post!
That does sound like a bit of a faff, but looks like it's probably the best way of doing it. Might have a look through the thread about alternative media players first though...
