When I browse the internet, after two or three pages of browsing, I get the error:
Memory full. Close some applications and try again.
But I only have two or three small apps running in the background (apart from system ones). I have cleared C:\cache\ but I still get the error. What might be using all the memory? Is there a free app to analyse where all the system memory is going?
all my vids/pics are kept on the memory card, and I don't have many text messages stored.
File Manager says that the phone's memory has 13MB unused.
I don't want to do any kind of software reset on the phone.
I checked Powerboot to see that list of Running Programs, and the list was huge, about 50+ programs. Is ths normal?
thanks.
p.s. how do I set my phone so that it empties the cache every time I exit the internet? I do all my web browsing via wi-fi anyway, so I'm not bothered about having to re-load pics and bits each consecutive visit to a webpage.
Software version - 5.0719.0.2
during the browsing it shows memorry is full cloes some application
and in phone memorry free space is near to 20 mb please solve this
Hold down the menu key for a few seconds to get a list of background apps, and then quit any apps other than the browser and screensaver.
If that doesn't help, you may have some hidden background apps also. Have you installed anything additional to the basics you get with the phone? You may have to uninstall apps to free up memory.
However, note that the N80 has very little memory. It can easily run out just by browsing a few sites that are heavily loaded with graphics and script (even with 20mb free, especially as it caches the previous pages in memory). You can try going into the browser settings and turn off loading of graphics and sounds, and disable Javascript.
Personally I'd look for another phone model now if you want decent mobile browsing. The N80 is okay for the occasional bit of google and surfing non-intensive sites, but it just doesn't have the memory for decent surfing, and it's slow, and crashes a lot.
yep the N80 is rubbish for browsing really, I would put the phone on the floor, in a nice spacious area, and shit on it:tongue:
lol, yeah 😃
Though I have a kind of fondness for it even despite the problems with it. It's still the only S60 I think of the 3rd edition series with a decent resolution. 5th edition phones have more but the touch UI is so badly implemented (and stuff like the N97 is way overpriced).
I've got my eye on an E71 or E72, but the resolution is a major step down for me, especially where maps are involved. Sure the screen size is bigger, but the lower resolution makes things more blurred and jagged. Other than that, they're nice phones though.
The Nokia browser is RUBBISH!! Try this instead and youll never look back:
OperaMini
http://www.opera.com/mini/
Been using it for a while and it works real well, never suffers memory issues, good shortcuts when you get used to it, its real easy to find your way round.
Opera mini is okay for basic browsing but it's not a full browser and doesn't render properly, doesn't support full javascript properly, lacks video support. It just renders stuff compact and simple for most mobiles. Does it's job, but it's limited.
I've got the full Opera for S60 and that's kind of okay but still has limits (downloading and opening files seems to be a big hassle for me. It can't jump to the PDF viewer when opening a PDF, and similar for other file types, and god knows where it actually saves downloads as I can't find them. It doesn't use Nokia's bookmarks).
Nokia's does a lot more and renders best, and for some sites is the only browser that will do javascript okay (e.g. for online check-in with BA), but there just simply isn't enough memory on the N80.
A common Nokia problem really. For some reason they skimp too much on memory even on many of the latest models.
