hi all
thinking of getting the n95 from O2 or T mobile, but heard rumours about the gps, is it possible to use any gps software on it or is it stuck with the nokia maps it has? im wanting to run either tom tom or route 66 most likely be tom tom. i heard O2 and T mobile had locked the gps side off to there co pilot or nokia maps is this true? any advice appreciated.
thanx in advance

Its open to any Symbian GPS program. Except tomtom sadly, you need a bluetooth GPS module as they have not released an update.
Search on the forum for more information about the various GPS programs available.
thanx for info when u say update is that one for tom tom or for the n95? if they did release one it would be ok then or is it the software not compatible?

i use Garmin on my n95 and honestly i think its the best GPS solution for the n95 since it can use the internal GPS. and it looks much better than nokia maps. i've been beyond satisfied with it on my phone.

It's TomTom that need to do an update, not Nokia, but I wouldn't hold your breath. It would appear they have abandoned the format, sadly.
I use TomTom on my N95 daily, with an external 44 channel GPS device. It works an absolute treat.
However, with the prospect of TomTom not updating the application or it's maps for Symbian devices, I am seriously considering my options for a worthy replacement.
Take a look at the reviews for Garmin XT and CoPilot (links are in bartmanekul's signature), they'll give you a good idea of a couple of other options. He will hopefully have a review of Sygic's McGuider soon too. That's one I have earmarked as a distinct possibility to replace my TomTom.
thanx all of you for your info, i use tom tom at the mo with my vario 2 and would miss it, but ill read the reviews on garmin n co pilot, quite a few ppl are recommending garmin so ill give it a try. i like my vario but im fed up of having to keep tabs on my gps battery etc and remembering to take it with me 😊 thats my main reason for upgrade, to keep everything in one unit.
thanx guys
