Call to all satnav users

Recently, I have been using the teleatlas map feedback service.

I have:

Added new addresses/estates that are not on there.

Corrected a few errors in the roads (junctions etc).

Added POI (pubs, pharmacys etc).

Obviously its no use for me, as I know about them all. But I figure if everyone who can does the same, its VASTLY going to improve mapping better than the vans ever could.

If you would like to help, find out which maps your satnav uses (its going to be either Navteq or teleatlas) and go to the following sites:

Navteq: http://mapreporter.navteq.com/dur-web-external/secured/submitDur.do?userType=CONSUMER&language=en

Teleatlas: http://mapinsight.teleatlas.com/mapfeedback/index.php

It really would make a difference, and worth doing imo.

I would have thought that all information would need to be verified by Teleatlas anyway by sending a van.

Its well known that it takes about 2 years for new roads and estates to get added and even then it takes a further delay to get converted to mapping data and sent to TomTom et al.

They can verify it by other means, especially new addresses. POI is easy too.

And in many of the places I reported, I dont see why they would send round a van unless they had too.

It really is worth doing.

It used to take that long, but it doesnt now. They have improved the speed, teleatlas have anyway.

I'm in. Doing 20,000 miles a year on the roads means I get to see quite a few things that aren't quite right 😉

Ace 😉

Whole reason for this coming about was getting sygic, and coming across all the mistakes my old Tomtom navigator 5 unit had. Which was how many years ago?

So, by me reporting a load of these issues, they will hopefully be fixed within a year, and on the next update.

Think about it though. Im in a medium size town, and I reckon i have sorted out most of the satnav inaccuracies in it. AND added important POI, like pubs.

Think of the improvments in the maps if just one person did this for each town.

And it would also mean you get much better quality POI included, because lets admit it, with any included POI on a satnav, its generally very poor.
