Howdo all.
Has anyone managed to debrand an Orange N95 with V13 firmware on it to Euro 1 & flash the phone to V21 ?
Tried a friends recently which resulted in a bricked phone. The flash went nearly all the way (forgot how far) but ended in failure. The phone would not get past the white nokia splash screen on restart. No amount of reformatting the phone solved this.
He received a new phone from orange but is now reluctant to try again as one of his mates has also bricked 4 of these Orange phones with V13 whilst trying to flash to V21.
The debranding process using NSS goes according to plan but as I have said it's the flashing using Nokia Updater that fails.
Does anyone know as to whether Orange have built into thier V13 firmware some kind of protection to stop debranding ?

Was the firmware v13 originally ?
It was the first thing I did, 15 minutes after it arrived 😉 (Mine was v13 too)
I am unaware of any "block" that Orange may have put in and would find that probably impossible for them to do.
My tips for debranding and upgrading are to ensure that the PC is stable, that your phone is fully charged and to leave the charger plugged in during the whole process. Once the NSU is running and updating your phone, don't touch your PC. Just stand (or sit) and watch it do it's thing, ensuring nothing or no-one disconnects the phone. Bricking a phone is not normally down to a problem with firmware or the NSU app itself. It's usually a case of P.I.C.N.I.C.

Yeah I've flashed many phones successfully too so this was a bit of a suprise. It maybe that I did it on my Vista computer & only ever used my XP machine before. I flashed mine the next day to V21 on my XP machine with no problems, so maybe that is it.

NSU has problems with Vista, that's a well known fact, however, I have used it before with no issues. Apparantly, Nokia are taking NSU down at 19:00 today for maintenance, and it's believed to be a fix for Vista that's being implemented 😊

I'm sure it was, yes.
As lovesign said, I made sure it was fully charged, set the process going and didn't touch anything until it was finished. I just sat there biting my nails but everything was ok, a very painless process. I also did it as soon as I got the phone.
Mine bricked as well. Dont dare try again on my new one!

Disable all virus checker, firwewall and any other security software during the FW upgrade...
If possible, use a laptop with a fully charged battery or a PC with UPS power protection in case of a power cut during the flash process.
