Yahoo e-mail check from E90 app?

26 replies · 19,321 views · Started 14 May 2008

Hey guys, new here and happy to be:icon14:.

I got the great E90 recently and am very content, except that I would really like it to be able to retreive e-mail from Yahoo mail. Can it do that and am I just being an idiot? I know yahoo has got a free mobile e-mail app you can download, but no E90 compatible version yet.

Thanks

Couple of suggestions:

a) If you want to use the built-in Messaging App, set up the account with the following:

pop3 server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
username: you yahoo account name without the "@yahoo.com" bit

Use SSL for connection, which should default to port 995.

That should be enough to see you through.

b) Create / or use a Googlemail accounts, click on Settings then choose Accounts tab and add your yahoo account in there (it should automatically determine the pop3 settings). Google will then poll your yahoo account regularly and you'll see your mail in your Googlemail (but filtered to show as your Yahoo mail). Then head to m.google.com and download the mobile app, which is pretty decent IMO.

Hi Guys,

Hey. I figured out eventually that you first have to change the POP3 settings in your yahoo options page. Mine is working great now😉

Could you post your settings as I cannot get it to work at all.

Cheers

PS. I have set the pop settings in yahoo mail.

Use the settings provided by deletia in his post. Here they are again: "pop3 server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
username: you yahoo account name without the "@yahoo.com" bit

Use SSL for connection, which should default to port 995."
Make sure that your POP server name ends *.com instead of *.co.uk . Let me know if that fixes it.

Ok, I'll try this in a bit, to be honest it looks like what i'd already done.

Post in the morning.

Ok. Here are the settings as I have them om my phone:

Connection settings-> incoming e-mail->user name: abcd (where your e-mail is [email protected])
password: your password (make sure about capitalisation)
incoming mail server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
access point: your default internet access point
mailbox name: name it anything
mailbox type: pop3 (this is default)
security(ports): ssl/tls
port: 995 (this is default)
apop secure login: off (won't work with "on"😉

Connection settings-> outgoing e-mail-> my e-mail address: your address
user name: abcd (where your e-mail is [email protected])
password: your password
outgoing mail server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
access point: your default internet access point
security(ports): ssl/tls
port: 465 (this is default)

You say you did enable pop3 access in your yahoo mail options menu? Can you tell what exactly happens when you try to retreive emails from your phone? Does the internet connect after you choose your access point, ask for your username and password and then do it all over again without results? Or does it say connecting and then stays there for ever?

Nightmare, I deleted one version of the yahoo mailbox and managed to delete the one that was working. Now I have one that dont connect even though the settings are exactly the same 😞

This is really doing my head in now, it just will not work, get's stuck in th loop asking me to confirm my details, then after a bit says my username or password is incorrect, which it's not!

Why did I delete that mailbox😞 this should not be this difficult!

Dai

Right, have been trying all morning to get this going again.
I have deleted the other mail box.

It will not connect, it's stuck in a cycle asking for my username them password then eventually its says it cant connect.

Don't know what i'm doing different as I had it going yesterday.

Need help as I'm extremley pissed off with this now!

Dai

Oh man, that sucks! The symptoms you are describing is what I experienced before I changed the pop setting on the yahoo mail website. So I am wondering if yahoo maybe resets the setting when they are not used after a while. If not, I think there might be some problems when your pc e-mail client (like outlook) tries to connect at the same time your phone does. I am also not sure, but if you installed an anti-virus/firewall application on your phone, it might also cause problems (sorry, just applying some pc knowledge, if applicable). Good luck!

Right,

It's sorted i'm collecting email, but can't send any email now.

I'm going to keep trying to get it working at least I can now read my email.

hello dai,
I've been quietly following this thread and some others, as i've been trying to get this working too. I've had it working for some time now, here's what i've got in my settings:
Incoming email:
Username: (your username but without the @yahoo.co.uk)
Password: (your password)
Incoming mail server: (pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk)
Access point: (your choice)
Mailbox name: (yahoo Mail)
Mailbox type: (pop3)
Security ports: (ssl/tls)
Port: (default)
Apop secure login: (off)

Outgoing email:
My email address: (your email addy in full)
Username: (your username without @yahoo.co.uk)
Password: (your password)
Outgoing mail server: (smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk)
Access point: (your choice)
Security ports: (ssl/tls)
Port: (default

I'm not sure if your service provider, i.e t-mobile, o2, orange ect, support relaying of smtp emails or not, i'm on o2 and it seems they do. In the past when i was on t-mobile, i had to substitute the outgoing smtp server for the t-mobile one if i wanted to send emails while connected to gprs or 3g. So maybe you need to do that for your outgoing settings. A quick google on the net will tell you what it is.

Hi everyone,

Still not got my outgoing problems sorted.

But have not had time to look at the settings again this last week. Going to look into it in the morning!

Dai

I tell you what, i don't think it's you, or your settings. I'm having intermittant problems myself now, with both the native email app and profimail. Sometimes they will send and sometimes not, i think it's yahoo that have a problem, so i've given up on it now. Just use googlemail instead it works perfectly. Yahoo seem to have an smtp issue lately.

I do not have Yahoo Mail Plus, is there anyway to use yahoo mail with my Nokia E90?
I did the setting as you said, but when it wants to check the mail it asks for username and password for 3 times and then an error that says i have been blocked from yahoo servers.

is there anyway to get my mail without signing to yahoo mail plus?

I'm pretty sure you need Plus for POP3 access. I upgraded a few years ago just to get rid of the adverts - Well worth the small fee IMHO.

Alternatively, have you tried Yahoo Go!, which I believe works on the N95?

Thank you very much for the reply, I did Test Yahoo GO, but it says no version is available for E90.

By the way, one of my friends has Nokia E71 and uses Yahoo mail (Not PLUS) but because he is Italian he has an Yahoo.it acount, he can access his mail box with no problem with setting a pop3 acount and SSL/TLS setting ON with no problem and he has not upgraded to mail plus. How is this possible?

Yahoo don't provide the same features worldwide. i.e. No IMAP access in the UK, even with a Plus account. 😞
