Introducing Hexxagon Labs

You've got to admire some developers for the way they manage to release their titles across the range of smartphone platforms, in this case at least five varieties on Symbian OS. Attila Katona has been reviewing Herocraft's new Hexxagon Labs strategy game (think Othello but six-sided) on S60 and comes away quite impressed.

Speaking of porting from one platform to another, if you take a look at Ideaworks3D's press releases recently you'll see their development engine allows easy porting of Nintendo DS properties to the N-Gage platform (or the other way round). Hmm... intriguing... Of course you couldn't do a direct port due to the DS's unusual combination of dual screens and touch sensitivity, but most DS games seem to be basically single-screen titles with a second screen crowbarred in.

krisse: except the games worth playing on the DS are the ones that do make use of the touch screen/duals screen exactly because they don't feel like the crowbarred games you mentioned.

there are of course games to consider for porting but probably not because they are successful on the DS but because they are good games. I can't think of one NOW, but I'm sure there are 😊

this is almost like a pro/con fight about convergence. I would rather play something that makes use of my hardware than pick up ANY console and being able to play the same games. some overlap is fine but if it becomes bigger than the console-specific games' group, one or the other platform/console/whatever inevitably becomes abandoned.

The trial version crashes immediately before starting a game on my 5800 XM. The application installs OK and supports touch input in the menu selection though.
