SIP and 6121 Classic Product Code

Hi,

I bought my Nokia 6121 Classic from M1 in Singapore.

However, after setting up the "SIP Settings" on the phone, it does NOT connect to my SIP service provider.

I checked with Nokia and the girl told me that the phone was not designed for VoIP. Yet I can use Fring, Gizmo and Talkonaut etc. successfully.

Thus, I suspect that the SIP function has been taken out by the local telco to prevent the use of SIP services, and guess that a debranding might restore the feature.

Please correct me if I am wrong!

Anyway, if I am right, then my next question is, are the product codes given by zorcgeo (sp?) for 6120 applicable to my model? Will having a wrong product code brick the phone?

If so, then where can I find a product code before I debrand my firmware?

Thanks for helping, and this forum is so useful! 🙄

I've only just got a 6120 in the UK. I've debranded it and installed a generic firmware on it..

I entered my SIP settings for my Voipcheap account and selected the always on option from the menu.

My phone connects to my voipcheap account. If someone dials my voip in number they get a ringing tone though nothing happens on my phone. Also there is no option to select an "internet call" when trying to dial a number.

It does make me wonder what was the point of putting the SIP option in the menu in the first place, if there is no way I can see to get it to work!

Anyone had any results with this?

Hey, at least you get to connect to VoipCheap, and that is a first step towards the right direction! :icon14:

If you RTFM you'll see SIP is used for other things.
In particular on Nokias you can stream video. I'ver never heard of
anyone using this.
Only the wifi phones have VoIP built in.
