N95 screen and keyboard mod, need your advise...

even if you can't help, feel free to place comments on this mod. it's been done before but i'm taking it to next step.

bluetooth keyboard + tv out + portable lcd = N95 UMPC!!!

do you want to buy a shell or make one?

how are you going to get the n95 into the case?

if i can find a pre-cut universal case, that would be awesome... otherwise, i'll try to make one. all of the electronic components are going to be behind the screen, i need the bottom lid to accomodate both the keyboard and a dock to keep the N95 in place while connected to both the tv connector and ac.

you want to place the N95 into the case so the camera is usable.

so by placing it "lens out" on the underside you still have a camera capability
the alternative is placing it "lens in" so that you can use the camera for video calls

looks like fun! 😊

But if you put it in a case you can't do this;

Or put the N95 in one pocket, the BT keyboard in another, and leave the screen in your car, boat, house or whatever - can you?

love this idea, make both cameras accessible for photo/video capture AND video calls. i'll need a redesign.

i understand what you mean, this is not to replace the n95's current purpose and intentions, but to maximize it's capabilities when the situation calls for it. for me, it is meant to maximize video playback (like a port dvd player), and probable laptop equivalent for school.

for phone calls, i'll just use a bluetooth headset. same goes for music playback.

I'd love to see the finished version. I wonder how the GPS will perform from the inside of a case.

good point, in any case i was thinking of finally getting a bluetooth gps reciever. i'll need it for in car navigation especially with the big screen.

as for the finished product, i'm no designer, i'll keep it a simple box but i'm hoping to make it piano black as the n95 8gb, and maybe a nokia decal.

Or you could try something I read on a Garmin Gps forum. To boost the signal to a built in GPS aerial, connect two GPS aerials (ebay) to each other, let one have a good sky view and place the other near the built in (N95) aerial. One acts as a receiver and the other a transmitter. You could fix one to inside of the front of the case (or connect it via a socket) and put the other next to the N95.

is that better than bluetooth?

how could that possibly work? gps receivers dont transmit in any way, only receive one way.

Who said anything about receivers? The post I referred to is talking about aerials. Aerials can transmit and receive, the DSC VHF radio telephone on my boat has one and it does just that. This principle is the same, and is used by people who want to use a GPS with an integral aerial indoors - or inside a boat.
