This is not really an E90 question but I can't see anywhere else appropriate to post it.
I was in Hungary for the last two days and on arrival at the airport on Monday, my E90 did not automatically roam to a local network. Funilly enough, my colleague's iPhone (spit) on O2 didn't either.
Both of us changed to manual network selection and "found" three networks. Vodafone Hu, T-mobile Hu and one other. Neither of us could register to any of the networks.
My colleague's iPhone eventually did on the second day but can anyone tell me if this is normal for Hungary. I have always previously picked up a local network in seconds when roaming.
TIA
Hello,
I'm from hungary and can tell you that is not normal in hungary. I used to travel a lot either to west or to east from hungary and used to have sim cards from different countries. The roaming was always OK and fast.
AFAIK roaming depends on your sim providers policy, contracts and settings and I'm 100% sure that your provider has contract at least with one of the hungarian providers. The problem can be somwhere around your roaming options.
Cheers,
I've never had a problem anywhere else in Europe - and it seemed strange that my colleague on O2 had exactly the same problem that I had on Vodafone.
As the first network that my phone found was Vodafone Hu, I was even more surprised - I could "see" the network - just not connect.
Is there a setting other than in "tools>settings>phone>network" which can over-ride the phone's setting. It wasn't Emoze as I'd shut it down for the trip. For example, I tell "Maps 2" that it may not connect when roaming.
Hi Terry110.
You're right that it was strange you couldn't use the network. I'm not aware of any problems being reported so this may have been an isolated incident. All phones have the ability of choosing what network to connect to and it may have been worth attempting this and re-connecting to the Vodafone network. It would seem however, since other networks had a similar issue, that this was a local issue to Hungary. Obviously local network issues are a little more complicated to check but if you are still there and still require assistance then just give us a shout.

Thanks but I was only there for a couple of days. It seemed doubly strange as my colleague was using an iPhone on O2 and had exactly the same problem.
Just one of those things. To be honest it was actually quite nice to be "untouchable" for a full 48 hours - it was only arranging pickups by our host that was a problem. Being unchasable by the office and the missus was almost a pleasure.
