Nokia enginner opinion for faulty GPS

5 replies · 2,926 views · Started 22 May 2008

Hi guys, I got n95 with new firmware. I once changed case including the antaner for the GPS and ever since it stopped working. Got a friend in carphoneware house and his enginner changed almost everything except main board of the phone but still the internal GPS does not lock even after 30mins.

Now my friend says nokia wont really check GPS just do firmware update and send it back.

Now i need a Nokia engineer ( not the ones who workin in carphone) to tell me if they will fix the GPS problem?

Thanks

You say you replaced the case... was it a genuine Nokia case or a cheap eBay copy? Nokia will probably only do a warranty repair if the case is genuine Nokia stock...

Everything on the phone now is Nokia original (even got a new slide). The engineer took it off a spare n95. Phone works fine and looks new except GPS and i'v even made sure the aerial part got good contact to phone.

The engineer said to my mate that most Nokia engineer do is just reflash it and if the phone works then....it works.

I might just send it off to them.

i had the same trouble with my n95,change the case to a nice black one and the gps stopped working, the way fixed it was to redo the firmware update, but do not do a backup of your phone,i did it and gps worked again, one thing do not do a backup of the phone with pc suite,i did and when i restored after i redid the firmware the gps would not work, but did when i tested it straight after the firmware update,i redid the update but this time did not restore, put the new v2 maps on and all is well.

I sent it off to the freepost "nokia care" fingers crossed i'll get it back working. Nokia engineer at carphone put v21 firmware but no joy.

I made it clear that the problem is only GPS. Using my old nokia 6630 that normal says in car with no sim (my tomtom and route 66 lol)

wish me luck!!!!
