N95 firmware - why mine is different than posted here? — Nokia N95 and N95 8GB

Hi all,

I went to the N95 Firmware Version thread (http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/58226/) and I noted that the latest firmware version has much higher number than mine.

My N95 have firmware 11.2.009. According to Nokia Updater site (http://europe.nokia.com/appmanager/UnitedStatesEnglishEUROPE_NOKIA_COM_3/Get_support;JSESSIONID_NCOM=y5ccL3bVLPN27sFKnJP5npZ2KQQv2WXXyZjDPhccSNZByrqq2y7L!-1002706748?_nfpb=true&_windowLabel=T164473045381201873962247&_pageLabel=P1192355&wsrp-urlType=blockingAction&wsrp-url=&wsrp-requiresRewrite=&wsrp-navigationalState=&wsrp-interactionState=_action%3D%2Fpageflows%2FSoftwareVersion%2FgetVersion&wsrp-mode=&wsrp-windowState=), this is the correct firmware.

I thought if I have the same version (N95, non 8GB) it should have the same firmware.

I am looking at better firmware because my GPS simply will not lock at all, no matter what.

Is your phone sim free or operator branded. Sim free phones are eligible for the newest software whereas operator branded phones can be months behind.

My phone is unbranded and unlocked. I bought it from a local store here in California. It's like the brick-and-mortar version of Expansys. 😊

So you're saying I can put it any firmware to this phone, doesn't matter what region it is? The reason I am asking about region is because I wonder if certain firmware only works with certain region.

Example: mine is N95-3 (RM 160), designed for US market. It has 850/1900 Mhz WCDMA frequencies instead of 2100 in N95-2.

Of course, I'll be more than happy to use firmware 20.xx.xx or whichever it is that can fix my GPS issue...

ianwarrior the reason why only v11 is out for your phone is b/c its a NAM version have different fimwares to global version

v11 is highest out for your NAM model it does'nt mean it is less upto date than a v12 on N95-1 0r v15 on N95-2
they run totally different versions of firmware and comparing numbers highest does'nt mean best or newest between incompatable models

to make it easy

N95-1
N95-2
N95-3
N95-4

all have different firmwares and cant be put on each other
