Anything to supersede the N95 in the near future

Hi folks,

Having had my N95-1 for 12 months now I'm due an upgrade today, are there any signs of anything drasticallly outweighing the N95 in the near future? I'm thinking my only option is to upgrade to the 8GB version!?

DVBT - that's FTA TV, right?

Screen res is disappointing and battery life appears to be even worse than the 95. If you weren't fussed about DVBT would you plump for the 8GB?

don't get me wrong I think the 8G model is fine .. but for me I'm only considering the 96 as a replacement .. I don't consider the 8G much of an improvement if any over the 95-1 with an 8G card.

The 96 won't be too hard on battery life - the problem with early release of the 95-1 was in the OS .. the 96 will start where the 95's OS has got to.

Cheers 😊

😊 the more I look at it, the more I like it! Is the screen the same size as the 8GB (ie slightly larger than the 95-1)?

Damn, guess I'll just have to wait now!

are you ppl ok? You saw n96's battery and standby time? Don't be stupid to buy the n96 yet, waste of money, wait for N96i or something like that, when all the bull is improved

this post makes the most sense

.. but it does have the DVBT which I was after.

N96 has DVB-H, not DVB-T. There are free DVB-H broadcasts in some countries, but no DVB-H at all in many regions. (None in UK, for example.)

Is their any point getting an N96 if you cant use the TV, you might as well get the N95 -8GB. Better Battery and same features, apart from internal memory sizes.

I didn't see anything significant over the next 12 months coming out over the N95, so I upgraded to the N95-8gb and flogged it on ebay for 265, and brought a PS3 with the cash 😊 . Figured I'd keep my N95 for another 12months.

Good man!

I think Nokia have to focus on phone size and battery power a bit more. They need to begin shrinking components before throwing in new ones. Anything larger than the N95 is not going to interest me to carry around all the time. The N95 is right on the cusp of acceptable. The N95-8 and N96 are only slightly larger (6CC/2CC) but they are still larger. Wandering around Finland and seeing the massive size of phones people are comfortable carrying around (like tons of E90), I'm not enthusiastic they will give size more emphasis.

To be fair to nokia, in all my years of phone contracts and upgrades i never thought i'd be approaching the end of an 18 month contract and still be happy with the phone i got in the very first month. For me the n95 was miles ahead of its time, and is still unmatched in overall spec. Even the 8gb model is not without its drawbacks. The n95 classic is a joy to text on, has the best camera and video recorder around, one of the best browsers and is now very reasonably priced considering some of the tat that's coming on the market. My mother recently purchased one on the t-mobile network with a 12 month guarantee for 130! You'd be hard-pushed to find a phone of that spec for that price anywhere else. Having owned a htc advantage, tilt, e90, viewty and n95 8gb over the last year i always went back to my n95 and i'll be happy with it for a while yet. A new cover wouldn't go amiss though....
