Bluetooth: Opinions on best hardware would be appreciated.

Yes, I KNOW that this may have come up before but rather than a "this works / that doesn't" I'm trying to find out what people seem to feel is the best option out there for a 7650 owner using a Win98se PC.

Most posts I've searched for on here and read have been things like "what works" or "how much is" - yes, I *have* searched before posting this ! {g}

I know of:-

D-Link DBT-120
MSI USB (MS6967)
Wavelinker Bluetooth USB

They all seem to be around the same price (30-40) so I wondered what real-world experience you've had of them. I'll be using direct "send-to" from Explorer etc, I'll be downloading video/images etc to the PC and backing up via PC-Suite.

At the moment the DBT-120 seems the better option - anybody have an opinion ?

Thanks in advance

I have MSI BT and it has worked perfectly with 98SE. As long as I dont
install the driver from its CD, but get the latest one from net. ( doh 😃 )

I found one, very small, for 22.90 + 4 P&P.
It's due today/tomorrow, I'll let you know how it gets on.
Have a look at http://www.shop.talboom.org/assets/cat/1.jpg

I've been using this one since december, no problems.

Aaargh! That's the Mitsumi one that I've had so much trouble with. In fact, I bought mine from the same people when they were selling them on eBay back in September.

I've never been able to get it to connect to Nokia's PC Suite, but other than that it works fine for file transfers. I'm going to buy an MSI adapter sometime soon so that I can backup my phone properly though.

So does anyone have any ideas about why certain devices work with PC Suite, but others don't? I remember some talk of PC Suite only working with a BT device that complied with a certain official BT spec (1.1?)

I'm going to buy an MSI adapter sometime soon so that I can backup my phone properly though.

Ehh...I have an MSI and everything works....except backup. It does backup just once after install....and then it hangs while truying to close applications on the phone! All other PC suite options work though....even restore!

Oh god! Now I'm even more confused. 😃

Thanks for pointing that out MaleBuffy.

So is there a BT adapter out there that let's you backup your 7650 every time? Please, someone tell there is 😃

for the ppl who managed to backup, but never again, you havnt moved the defualt dir from c:\nokia\7650 to somewhere else on your machne have you??

If you have, backup all the data in the Dir, and uninstall / reinstall software and leave it in the default loc, works fine for me. 😊

You could just try movin it back to its default loc but i didnt do that so cant comment

So it seems.
I was using PC Suite at work (Win 2000) with a serial IR cable - no problems.

I installed the Mitsumi Bluetooth and PC suite, and XP Home edition was not happy. Kept getting the Switch / Retry windows box, as an application (unamed) was hanging. On pressing switch, the start menu opened, indicating it was a windows shell explorer problem. (I think).

PC Suite did not see the bluetooth adaptor....

Tried to uninstall, and re-install from the Nokia website - and was told it's the same version.

Tried to uninstall, and windows tried to re-boot, and then would not re-load.
Have managed to get to safe mode and uninstall both, and will try again, but it's not looking good.

Any XP Home/Mitsumi users who have had problems and resolved them, do let me know.....

Cheers

Can't get XP and PC Suite to be friends.

MRouter crashes, and tries to open Windows start menu.
Processor is toggling betweem MRouter using 0% and 12%

Not a happy bunny
