HOW DO U CONNECT GPRS TO LOGON IN YR LAPTOP?
I just posted recently... the search feature here is very powerful :-?

I love my Nokia D211 GPRS/GSM/WLAN card. I can use my laptop at work with WLAN and with the same laptop surf the web with GPRS at home.
THANX MAN, but thats gprs is for apple computers, wat abt windows... and to connect GPRS by infrared????/
Ahh, but you didn't specify "pc" in your original posting 😃

I haven't been able to get it working with my PC WinXP notebook yet, because of BT issues with IBM's choice of BT Stack software. Infrared - never tried it.

Mark

I have it working now using Bluetooth over the T-Mobile network in the US using a DUN client. I do not have infrared native on my PC laptop, so I have not tried it yet. With some trial and error I was able to get it to work, as it was very similar setup as on my T39.

Settings on the phone:
In control panel: connections: internet accounts add a new account (name it what you want).
Make it a GPRS account.
In advanced: server add the following address: internet2.voicestream.com
Once you have done this you are done with the phone setup, however you need to note what position the account is in your list of accounts.

Settings on your laptop:
Make sure you have a modem added for the P800. With the Bluetooth setup I have its a matter of setting up the P800 modem driver (included with the P800 setup software) on one of the ports created by my Bluetooth card. Since there are an infinite number of setups possible (for either Bluetooth or infrared), I am not going to go into details here.
Once you have a modem for your connection to your phone add a Dial up Networking connection that uses this modem. For T-Mobile/Voicestream the number you need to dial is:
*99***x# where x= the position in the list that the GPRS account is in the list. So if it is the 3rd account in the list then the number dialed is *99***3#.
Next you need to change the DNS settings in the advanced section of TCP/IP. The DNS servers for the northeast for T-Mobile are:
216.155.175.170
216.155.175.171

To get these numbers originally I had spent some time on the phone with Voicestream where they alluded to the possibility that in different parts of the country they use different DNS servers when the original DNS address I received did not work. I cannot recall if on any of my trips if I either used my dial-up GPRS on my laptop, or if I had any difficulty. I seem to remember being in a Midwest airport and having it work.

My guess is if you are on the T-Mobile network, you would have to just change the settings on your computer to use an infrared port rather than a Bluetooth port and the rest of the configuration would be the same.

Good luck.

First you have to make sure both the IrDAs are working. Second you have to have an internet account setup in your P800 (Control Panel, Connections, Internet Accounts) with setup data provided by your Airtime Provider (GSM/GPRS). Be sure to ask them what their APN or access point name for a GPRS dial-up and ask them the dial-up number (usually in the form of "*99***" + "CSID" + "#"😉. The CSID will be supplied by your laptop later once the right choice for APN is made.

In your laptop, if you have a SIR driver choice for your IrDA use it. You must then enable it in Control Panel (you will know it is enabled because you will see an icon in the system tray). You go to Modems in your Control Panel and delete or uninstall any installed Ir modem drivers (let it install again a standard Ir modem once you place your P800 near your laptop's Ir).

In your P800, go to Control Panel, Connections, Infrared and tap on the option to make your Ir a modem and tap on "On".

Now bring the two near each other (I don't have to remind you about the line of sight). Your notebook should recognize the P800 and will install a standard Ir modem driver (if not, mine did, you may have to go straight to install SE P800 Ir modem driver). Go to Modems again in your Control Panel and check what COM port the newly installed standard modem driver got assigned to. If possible try to go to the Diagnostics tap and do a diagnostics. If your P800 is okay (my first unit's Ir modem was defective and I had to get a replacement) the diagnostics box should get filled up with AT commands. Now add a modem (this is done if your laptop did not automatically install a standard Ir modem the first time it saw your P800 thru its Ir) but do not let Windows detect the modem, get it from a list. From the list, you should see a list of SE modems. One of them should be an Ir modem. Choose that modem and assign the same COM port number you saw assigned to the standard Ir modem previously.

Now add a connection to your dial-up network and choose the SE P800 Ir modem. Then choose GPRS for the type of connection and your laptop and P800 will communicate and present the available APN setup in your P800. Choose the one for GPRS dial-up. The rest will be automatic (In my case, here in the Philippines, we leave the userid and password blank).

I hope you will find the above useful and "easy" to follow.
