Hi all,
Sorry if it's been discussed here before, but I thought it was worth comparing battery usage with a proper GPS app which supports the N95 Internal GPS chipset and / TomTom 6 with the PindPDA N95 Internal GPS hack.
Standby Mode (Power Save Mode) = 0.08W (Watts)
Standby Mode (Menus Active) = 0.22W
Route 66V8 (Internal GPS) = 0.54W
TomTom6 + GPS Hack = 0.75W
The only thing I cannot test is TomTom6 with a Bluetooth GPS receiver, as I don't own a BT GPS unit... can anyone oblige with the power readings?
It would appear that TomTom6 with the hack is going to run the battery flat much more quickly than any current GPS app which fully supports the Internet GPS chip... another nail in the coffin of TomTom's Symbian support!
1: the post is usefull for comparing different methods and their battery consumption. Great for those who are using their N95 in the field.
2: the post deals with hacking which I don't think the moderators will agree with as they may get negative feedback from TomTom.
But, none-the-less, thank you for posting your results.

.
To some point I reply "fair point" but as I dont post links to said hack, and as the results back up my view that TomTom6 with GPS hack is NOT a viable option, I hope you can forgive my tests including the GPS hack. 😉

Is writing about stolen cars forbidden too? 😉
By the way, if TomTom has no money to develop TomTom that can take care of internal GPS, ppl helped them ;P
But... Im joking only 😉
K.
I dont see anything wrong with it, no links to dodgy software.
I am glad to see someone providing extra ammo in saying that the hack isnt viable.
Personally its a real PITA having to set GPS device each time you start it.
It would be nice if Tomtom gave us ANY feedback. I have given up on my latest attempt to contact them, after having being told it was passed to another department. Twice.
Chased it up and got an apology and they said they would look into it. That was weeks ago.

Maybe they need glasses? 😉
What they need, is a kick up the backside. Not only in manners, but to realise that they are missing out on a huge market. Oh well, their loss.
