My nokia n95's screen has died, I can power up, and take calls, but I can not see any messages or dial numbers etc etc...
I need to back up the phone, but I havent got a clue as to what I'm pressing... I would like to get all my sms messages from the phone and all of my contacts, does anyone have any idea how I can do this, the pc suite software says "connected in non compatible mode"
I'm a little stuck at the moment 😞

.....I presume you are connecting to PC Suite over the USB from the pc suite software says "connected in non compatible mode" bit, do you blindly press the OK key to select the USB mode when pluging in the USB cable or have you set it (in USB settings on phone) to default to Data Transfer or Media Player ie rather than PC Suite Mode?
You need the phone to be in PC mode to use the apps in PC Suite on PC
...so in short do you press any keys on the phone when you plug in the USB Cable?
yep connecting via pcsuite using the USB cable.
Yes I am pressing a key (its setup to give a list of choices, but as I can not see which one I need to choose I can't get the thing to work) 😞
to your question, I do press a key to, normally I used to press the hangup button as I didnt really use pcsuite that much... but now that I need it!!!!! :S

...try pressing up once on the square 'joypad' then press the centre of the 'joypad' (WTF is it called anyway ??) that should put the phone in PC Suite mode...if not then press up twice then centre.....in other words try to 'hit' on the PC Suite option on the phone....PC Suite should then show your phone as connected, then you can use the apps to back stuff up
will try mate... thanks for that, did have a go, but wasnt' having much luck!!! 😞
still nowt!!! Argh, pulling my hair out, is there any other software that would allow me to just get all the contacts etc off my phone, without all of this polava??! :S
cant even see the screen to access the bluetooth, as I have it set to hidden always!!! :S
...you 'should' be able to put phone into PC Suite mode by using a combination of up's and downs on the 'joypad' then pressing select on the 'joypad' (you will need to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable in between each attempt though!)...the list of options on the screen when you plug in the cable is (in order):
PC Suite
Data Transfer
Image Print
Media Player
The default option is the one you used last
...if no luck then :dontknow:
thanks mate, I thought as much, but I've tried for ages and have gotten no where, think there may be more than just a screen prob with the phone... oh well :S looks like i'll have to collect my numbers all over again!!!! :@ stupid things; I'll try an retrive the data using the forensics hardware I have.
Can you not use the TV out?

Yeah use the TVout and you then have full control of your phone
I didnt even know it had a tv out!!! mmmm thanks will def look into that!!! 😃
why bother backing up your contacts? just have your lcd replaced and it will be all ok.
or just plug in the usb cable and select any mode. open n95 from MY COMPUTER if "data storage" mode is selected or Nokia phone browser if you've selected "usb mode". try searching for your contacts in the folders. if you have backed your contacts on your memory card, it should be in the folder OTHERS\CONTACTS
When you connect to the TV out via cable. It should default to TV-Out option. There is a total of 3 I think...
Don't scroll or anything just push select (middle button of D-Pad).
Just close Pc Suite on your comp. Then they only way your computer recognizes your phone is in Usb mode.
After you got it to connect in Usb mode, just connect again and press up one time.
thanks all, will give all those a try, although no contacts are stored on the mem card, and the screen will cost to replace, so theres no point in doing that as I can get a free replacement... I'll try the usb and tv out thing and see if I get any luck... 😊
again thankyou all for your input!
