Completely unannounced, you can now play a Flash-based demo of the upcoming N-Gage game Dirk Dagger And The Fallen through your PC browser, click here to do so. The demo covers the first chapter of the game where you control Dirk's partner Harry as he goes to meet a mysterious client at a diner. We loved the humour in the demo, especially the poster for a tropical island outside the window and the ship sequence, hopefully the full game has lots more of it.
Read on in the full article.
One thing that annoyed me about the demo though was its height, I kept having to scroll up and down to read both sides of the conversation.
It seems that the developers have a much higher resolution monitor than I do.
that height anoyed me too ,i centre it on screen but still a inch gets chopped off and i miss half story if not careful.
i see in the picture you've poisoned the fish lol
How about pressing F11? That helped me out.

Works a treat, cheers for the tip, off to try it out now, very curious about this game.
Wow, just played it....superb! Really didn't know quite what to expect from this game as I'm not really a fan of the genre(even Prof Layton on the DS failed to inspire me) but I think this seems like a great little game.
Loved the humour and there were some nice little interactive ideas(the camera gave a nice little hint of what we should hopefully expect). Gone from a maybe to "must buy" for me, if the N93 ever gets NGage support that is🙄
BTW, anyone else think that guy in the cafe that gives you your first case looked a bit too much like John Prescott?😊
Yeah, nice little demo (and great that everyone can try it, even non-n-gagers).
I'm a big fan of adventure games, been playing them since their text-based days, and it's nice to see the genre get an outing on phones. There was a developer on S60v2 who made them but he seems to have given up.
Hopefully the full Dirk Dagger has enough depth to make it worth the money, I got through this demo in just a few minutes.
Regarding John Prescott, I don't think it's him as the developers are Jadestone, a Swedish company.
By the way, try eating the fortune cookies several times...
The demo is quite interesting. Specially the humor is excellent. This one is a must-try. But how many of those chapters are we going to get, will decide the overall value of the game, as the genre doesn't support multiple replays. And I hope it is only the 1st chapter which requires just common sense, consequent chapters will probably demand more gray matter 😉.
Adventure games CAN support replays if they're cleverly written.
I used to love replaying Monkey Island just to read all the conversation trees, and some adventure games have multiple solutions to puzzles and/or multiple routes through the game itself.
Lucasfilm's games sometimes had points where you had to choose between an arcade game style solution or something more intelligent, so there was even a choice of gameplay.
However, I totally agree that the success of an adventure depends on how much material there is to explore, and this demo isn't even a fraction of how long the game needs to be. Hopefully the full game will be much, much longer.
Did not play that much of adventure games :P. But surely, if multiple solutions are there, the game lasts longer, just like Lament Island. I think another aspect that can make us replay adventure games is tracking time. Then, we will be hurrying for another high score and probably will play it more. Let's see what Dirk Dagger has to offer.
Another thing I noticed, Dirk Dagger is probably the only first party N-Gage game based on a character. Can it be Nokia's Mario? 😉

Intresting Point Sandy this game should become big and i quite like it a lot.
But i don't think it will become Nokia's Mario b/c Mario was targeted torwards all ages and Dirk Dagger will be liked by older Gamers judging by the kind of humour it as in it and youngsters i know like action packed fast moving games, where this is slow moving Adventure puzzle solving which i like loads.
Nobody Realy Knows ,i do see Huge potential so it could be,It'll be intresting finding Out
I honestly don't think gaming platforms need any kind of mascot, most successful gaming systems have never really had one. It's only really been Nintendo and Sega which used one game's character so prominently.
But even if you do need a mascot, I think Nokia's is Snake. 😊
The red ball from Bounce is another Nokia game character, and that's due to be released as a Mario/Sonic-style 3D platform game on N-Gage very soon.

I am telling about human (or human-like) central character. And I did not say that Nokia needs a mascot (it surely has one, even after the debacle of the Subsonic), actually what I meant was, whether Dirk will be as popular as Mario?
Regarding ccraig's remark, I think the age barrier in gaming has almost disappeared in the 7th generation. In the 6th generation, it was at an all-time high, Now with increasing sales of the DS (including youngsters, elderly people and others), the age barrier matters less. Also, in N-Gage the dearth of games at this period can draw even interested youngsters towards Dirk.

Well, I personally wouldn't really regard Mario as a human character any more than Sonic the Hedgehog. Mario is human-shaped, but you never hear him say much or express any emotion, he's just a sprite basically.
I don't think you could say "Mario would do this" or "Mario would do that".

It might if this was a console, but as it's a phone game we'll probably have to wait until N-Gage is on cheaper models like the upcoming 5320. Once that happens I think we'll see a lot more younger people playing these games, because they'll be on phones they can more easily afford.
Incidentally, for those interested in the 5320:
