Hi Symbian users,
I guess that licensing new OS version for the already released phone models could be expensive, but I really wan't to enjoy the up to 75% increased app speed and other advantages of the 9.5 OS. As I read on Symbian.com the 9.5 is full backward compatible.
It's realy something that we should speak about. The biggest WinMo brands offer free upgrade to the new version. Maybe Nokia would do the same?
Please read the 9.5 specs!
Lots of advantages and full backward compatibility.
What do you think Symbian users?
Nokia has only just (the N78 in June) started releasing phones based on Symbian OS v9.3 & S60 3rd edition feature pack 2.
v9.5 devices are probably a year away.
The compatibility in an communications from Symbian refers to compatibility with applications, not with hardware. Though probably much of the same hardware will be supported this is down to the processor makers updating their software too.
Personal opinion: I think it is unlikely that Nokia will support full version upgrades. However Nokia do ceretainly pick features from newer Symbian OS versions and push them back into earlier releases.
Though, as the "Demand Paging" feature added to the N95 last year shows, these can even appear in firmware upgrades for existing devices.

Thanks tonyn!
You see here we can learn new things. The reason I've posted this article, that it wasn't clear to me if any OS upgrade comes with firmware upgrade. Now, thanks to You i know more.
Cheers,
