Hi,
Upgraded my Vodaphone UK N95 8GB to firmware 20.0.016.Since the upgrade,I can't install any new software. After using either PC suite or installing via the phone directly,it complains of the file being corrupted.
It does this with everything, from the official N-gage software to bought games and free themes. What am I doing wrong? Help! Please! :icon14:
Well someone correct me if im wrong but could be because that firmware isnt for the N95 8GB its for the original N95
from nokias site
Nokia N95 software version 21.0.016 released - 26 March 2008
This software version includes Flash Lite 3 support (enabling users to watch Flash video web sites such as YouTube) and Widget support. The release also includes standby-time improvements and improvements to Bluetooth headset interoperability.
Nokia N95 8GB software version 15.0.015 released - 11 January 2008
This software version includes Flash Lite 3 support which enables users to watch Flash video Web sites such as YouTube and improved power consumption allow you to do more for longer. Other improvements include WLAN and browser stability, email viewing and Nokia Maps startup.
Thanks for the reply.I updated the firmware from within nokia's own software update tool.Could this have installed the wrong firmware by mistake?
Some confusion here I think.
Morphback quotes that he installed firmware 20.0.016 to his N95 8GB.
fiddles then quotes version 21.0.016 released for N95-1 (which is correct) but then says that the N95 8GB is on 15.0.015 released - 11 January 2008.
However, I am running firmware 20.0.016 on my generic N95 8GB and Vodafone have released a version 20 also, see here:-

It could be that the problem, as usual, is that after upgrading, you used Restore on the PC Suite and also restored Settings. Best bet is to enter *#7370# from main screen and then do a restore and omit Settings.
Good luck
v 20.0.016 is the newest firmware for vodafone UK on N95 8GB
Nokia released vodafone version about 3 or 4 weeks back
so thats correct b/c i have same firmware for my vodafone UK N95 8GB
i recommend u format your phone and card and DO NOT use a back up from content copier.
To format phone memory press *#7370# if it asks for code the default code is 12345
To format MaSS Memory got to TOOLS > UTILITIES > MEMORY > options >then select format mass memory.
also in app manager go to options > settings and select ALL for software installations
and set online certificate check to off.
Hope this helps let us know
I was quoting from here http://europe.nokia.com/link?cid=EDITORIAL_529019
I have original N95 not the 8GB and on there it states
Nokia N95 software version 21.0.016 released - 26 March 2008
Nokia N95 8GB software version 15.0.015 released - 11 January 2008
so unless nokia's site is wrong how can vodafone have released a higher version than nokia themselves have ?
Also on here http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/58226/ shows highest N95 8gb firmware is 15.0.015
it is wrong
v20 for unbranded n95 8gb as been out 2 months or longer and vodafona about a month.
your complicating things for this poor guy
YOUR WRONG fiddles
here is a link to a thread a writ on the release of vodafone version
http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/72740/

like I said before I was going on info off Nokia's site and the official firmware thread on here and also stated I personally dont have the 8GB I have the classic
Its not me complicating things its all all these sites with wrong info confusing the matter
Thanks to all of you for trying to help.Problem has been solved by following ccraig's advice 😊:icon14:
Yes, so to conclude... Do NOT use Restore after upgrading firmware! We have seen SO many problems with that, so I think it's a good idea to start AND end threads like this with a warning.
Oh, and don't worry about installing software for a wrong device. You'd have to perform a heckuvalot of hacking before that will ever happen 😊
In addition to this I have the O2 UK spiderman version of the N95 8G phone and I have managed to install some games & apps but not other SW such as Divx player and others. I have managed to install mobitubia for example so I can watch youtube video but I still experience load of problems with installing apps since invalid certificate and other crap like that come up?
oh I also cannot watch the preinstalled spiderman movie installed on the phone....
Any ideas?
Thanks,
