Nokia Maps and Navigation

Hi

I just wondered if Nokia Maps navigation was possible WITHOUT subscribing to the Voice Navigation bit? Every time I try to navigate somewhere, it asks me to subscribe, and I don't want to subscribe to the voice bit, I just want to navigate for free.

Is this possible?

Thanks
M

This was mis-sold to me then!

How much does it cost? Nokia.com seems to be short of information on that.

I plan on putting garmin mobile xt on there anyway, or TomTom if it ever gets released!

It will tell you on the phone when you check the subscription options.

However, on some options its cheaper to buy via maploader 2, which is in Beta at the moment. Dont get excited though, the differences are really small.

Cost for drive and walk from the phone menu are:

30 days - 6

90 days - 19.94

1 year - 55.83

Far too expensive imo.

Edit:

Ok, just looked at the maploader prices. It varies!

30 day - 7.12

90 day - 19.78

1 year - 55.41

That makes no sense whatsoever. I know its a beta, but that shouldnt mean different prices.

Perhaps its just charging (a lot) more on the 30 day for using a credit card. Other than that, Im lost.

I've just seen how much this costs, and you're right, it is prohibitively expensive, especially when there are things like Garmin mobile and route 66, not to mention people who claim to have installed tomtom!

make sure you buy garmin mobile if youre going to put it on your phone mate , otherwise companys will just stop making this great sat nav software for our phones then we will be left with no updates or support etc etc

its only around 100 pounds (probs cheaper now mate) for the product and europe maps

ive heard co pilot is good too allthough i havent used it myself i use garmin and love it , use it everyday at work and would recomend it

duxvirorum iam guessing you put a link to pirated software hence the warning from bartman

THAT SUCKS MAN PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE COMPANYS LOOSE MONEY AND THEY WILL JUST STOP MAKING THIS SOFTWARE SORT IT OUT AND BUY THE SOFTWARE OR DONT USE IT!!!!!!!!

1. Sry about hacks I havent read the forum rules, my bad.

2. This part is where u upset me by telling me that company will lose money. I work in big company and my firm is paying to Microsoft, Garmin and Nokia enormous bills.

So tell me do u really think that they would make software like that and without protecting it from the hacks?!? I dont think so.

The reason why they put that software on in its just because to make more ppl to buy that phone (its called commercial trick). They dont earn money by selling that nav software. They just earn money by selling the phone.

One other thing; every second PC has Microsoft OS pirate version (thats for sure). I havent noticed that Microsoft stopped developing OS, and never the lees they have great support.

What planet of business sense is that from?

Of course they make money from it.

I dont understand what that has to do with it. Presumably, your paying them for something they provide you?

It is protected. First, its an incredibly complex thing to do. Second, it didnt work for someone who tried it. Third, I bet if they learn about it, it will be closed (if it ever worked in the first place).

No, if that was the case it would be free in the first place. That would be greater advertising, what you might call a 'commerical trick'.

They earn money by both selling the phone, and the software, or more to the point, the extra services on the software.

Have you any idea how many people have bought the walk and drive options? Its in the thousands. And you cannot tell me thats not earning money.

One other thing; every second PC has Microsoft OS pirate version (thats for sure). I havent noticed that Microsoft stopped developing OS, and never the lees they have great support.

I somehow doubt you can bring up any statistic that proves anything like.

And in case you havent noticed, pirate copies of windows have updates stopped. I call that stopping support. I presume this can be got around, but again thats people hacking it, not something Microsoft is happy about.

Nokia has paid literally billions on aquiring Navteq, and obviously development of the Maps application costs, as well as having running costs (providing servers for downloading maps, be it via maploader or over the air for one).

It stands to reason that the less incoming revenue and popularity of an application, the less they will be inclined to develop it. Which is a bad thing for end users (like you and I).

Same applies to Garmin, copilot, etc.

So while its the forum rules, its also my opinon on it.

So how exactly then do Tom Tom make money out of Nokia selling phones?

That doesn't make sense.
