mfe 2.5.3 High Data + Drains Battery + Heats Up E90

Since installing mfe 2.5.3 I have big data usage and my E90 will now drain from a fully charged battery in half a day! 😡

In fact it is so bad that I can feel the phone heat up on the right hand side of the keyboard when mfe sync is set to always on. I am on Orange and using 'Orange internet' access point, this was never a problem with mfe 2.5.

Since the problem, I have updated the firmware to the latest version and did a clean install of mfe 2.5.3 but I still have the problem.

I am now at the point where I want to put mfe 2.5 back on my E90.

Does anyone know where I can find this previous version? Or how I can fix it?

Thx

I don't know what mfe is, but it's normal for any nokia that supports data to get warm when large amounts of data are transfered. You should be comfrorted in the fact it doesn't seem to be anything wrong with your phone. The reason it warms up is that with wifi or gprs/wcdma data tx can be quite fast and the more data tx'd per unit of time uses more power, and a lot of the heat generated comes from the battery alone. I use my phone sometimes for downloading torrents using symtorrent, this has the same effect.

clive6630 is right.

The heat is because the data traffic mainly 3G. The half day operating is fine, while continous data traffic is almost as havy as to call continously for the phone.

Cheers,

I also have the same problem with my N96. I just bought the phone a couple of days ago and installed MFE 2.5.5.

If I have the "always on" connection I get a data usage rate of about 1MB every 5 minutes even though no emails are being sent or received. Because of this the battery lasts only about 6 hours.

I compared my settings with people at my work with E series phones (with older versions of MFE and the same service provider). Although the settings were the same they did not have the same data and battery problems as me.

I noticed that on the e series phones the MFE status just stayed on connected, while mine was continually flicking between connected and syncing email.

The connection manager of the e series phones showed the data connection as stable at a few kilobytes while mine was showing an ever increasing data flow (sent and received).

I also noticed that the heartbeat setting on the e series mobiles were up around the 35 mark where mine kept dropping to 1 (According to the instructions this is bad)

I cannot figure out what is being transmitted/received for the data usage to be so high as I thought push mail was supposed to only use data when the server had something new to transmit.

On another note I just tried installing roadsync but keep getting installation errors.

Somebody please help.

Thanks

I dont use mfe. Its complcated and cauz many problems.
For the push email i use Nokia Email still in beta but do the job.
for sync. i use Ovi. well, sync. your phone manually but safe.

Try version 2.7 that was just released. I must say that I don't have any problems with MFE and love it - saves me a lot of money compared to blackberry service.
