If you have suspended your service and told t mobile you have lost your phone, they bill block your phone for you. The phone will not be able to be used as a phone as there will be no signal.
If your mobile phone is insured, you should contact the insurance company and get a replacement
if only you would have installed one of the apps for this. there is actually an app that will lock the phone just by you sending a text message to it. and it would even turn on the GPS, send the phone's coordinates to you so you can know exactly where it is. i forget what the app is called though...
unfortunately one of the first things that the suspect will do will be to turn the phone off. The network blocking the phone will also have little effect as it is very easy for them to change the imei and get the phone up and running again. Chances are that if you've just lost it then you're not looking at someone with that level of consideration for being caught though.
Assuming it's just lost, and you haven't been robbed or anything your best chance of getting it back will be to do the following things: 1) Go to your local police station, or even better the station local to where you think you may have lost your phone, and report it lost. That way if it's handed in at any station they'll re-unite you with it. 2) If it may have been lost on public transport then they will have a lost property office. You should be able to get the number or contact details while at the police station. Most regions have a central one where all transport services will deposit lost property. 3) Register your phone on www.immobilise.com, which may have already been done for you by your phone company when you bought the phone. Either way make sure some contact details are on there and the fact its been lost. This is the database that all police forces check mobile phones against. Whenever anyone is stopped and searched or arrested they check the imei numbers of any phones they have on them against this database which will show up that it belongs to you and was lost. 4) Contact any places such as shops, pubs, etc that you may have been in to see if they've had one handed in. It's a slim chance but it's a chance at least. Sorry for the poor formatting of this post, I'm doing it on my phone. Good luck!
Sound advice Aurial. You never know, there just may be some honest people still around.
Very few, but you don't know if you don't try. Also registering it gives quite a significant chance with the not-so-honest people too and I would recommend anyone to do it. It's free so you've got nothing to lose and possibly something to gain. On the topic of the software which disables your phone and sends you its location using the gps, it's a nice idea in theory but the reality is that someone who steals your phone is not really interested in your details at all, they just want to sell it quick. Also, if you've had it stolen from you it's all well and good having it tracked but how are you going to give this information to the police? Presumably you're in the street or another public place where you don't have access to a computer and this is not a system used by the police themselves. Also consider that your phone is not going to be switched on for long after it is stolen. I was thinking about this the other day actually and the one phone that this solution would work best on would be the iphone because they can't remove the battery.
Thanks to all for the responses.
I've recovered my phone. Someone picked up my phone around 6am the morning of July 4th. I got home at 9am, checked the T-mobile "current usage." There were some calls made. I promptly called T-mobile to suspend service.
Turns out the person who had my phone called his place of employment. I called that number and they told me what time he starts work. So, I went and retrieved my phone.
Here's the weird part, I was still able to make/receive calls from my phone even though I called T-mobile (automated system) to suspend service..? I'm guessing they didn't effect the change due to holiday weekend.?
Good for you, glad you got it back.
Doesn't fill me with confidence with T-Mobile. Hope I don't lose my phone, I'm with them too!

If you have a reference number then you can argue liability for calls made after you reported the theft. If I find a phone I will usually look for the name of a parents, home, sibling, partner etc.

Do you 'find' a lot of phones?? 😉
Not any more no.
However when I worked in retail we would quite often get them handed into the front desk 😉 this seemed to be the most logical way of dealing with them short of waiting for someone to attempt phoning said device 😊
Seems a bit dodgy that they would call their place of employment and not hand it in, or call anyone from the phonebook.
Still, at least they didn't deny that they had the phone when you tracked them down - congratulations on getting it back.
Did you ask them to reimburse you for the call? 😉
