My Nokia 9300 currently is running 5.22(01) firmware and I wanted to upgrade to the latest firmware 6.27(0) for better Blackberry support. I took it to 2 Nokia Care centes for firmware upgrade but both of them got back after holding the cell for over a day saying that even after flashing, they were unable to upgrade the Firmware. I am in Bangalore, India and would appreciate any assistance on the cause and its possible resolution. Thanks. :con?
Issues with Firmware Upgrade - Nokia 9300
The only things that would prevent a firmware upgrade are:
1. A provider-lock -- is your phone "unlocked"?
2. Incompatible hardware--there are two versions of the 9300: the world-wide edition and the 9300b (for use in the USA). They differ in one of the GSM frequencies. To determine which yours is, remove the battery cover and battery and read the model number inside the battery compartment.
This information should let us here on the forum be able to help you.
Thanks for the response. Replies are as follows:
1. Yes. The phone is unlocked and was purchased in India with complete warranty in 2005. The warranty has since expired.
2. Model: 9300 Type: RAE-6
Would appreciate any assistance on the resolution. Thanks.
It sounds like you phone might be "hard-locked".
I suggest that you contact the people at www.iunlock.com and ask them for guidance. They are a U.S.-based company, but they have experience in the more difficult issues involved in unlocking and reflashing phones.
If you email them, they may be able to further answer your questions and suggest where to go in Bangalore to achieve your goal.
Good luck!
