Maximum size for .sis file?

I have to transfer a lot of gif pictures to my phone and I found out that 1,2MB was too much 800kB went in smoothly. I checked the memory in use 842kB and free memory 3250kB.

Is there a maximun limit of the .sis size?

Can't say that there is a maximum limit, however, I've experienced exactly the same issue with other filetypes not .sis

I think the problem lies with the fact that anything sent to the phone ends up in the message Inbox, which you then have to open in order to either install the SIS file or whatever. Perhaps the phone needs temporary working space equal to the size of the message trying to be opened?

As it happens I was trying to send VirtuaGirl animations to the phone (purely to see what all the fuss was about with MobiGrl😉) and I ended up clearing almost everything off my phone in order for a 1.2Mb file to "fit" into nearly3Mb of empty space...

Very weird.. If anyone else can come up with a credible explanation, I'm all ears 😮

This is perfectly correct. You can test it by sending an sis file to your phone so it ends up in the inbox, now open the file but when it asks you if you want to install the app select no. Now if you go into "manager" and scroll down to the bottom where the smaller sized installed apps lie, the very last one will be the one you just cancelled before it installed, with a file size exactly the same as the sis file in your inbox. It is stored in a temp folder when it is opened from the inbox and installed from there. This also happens sometimes when apps crash part way through an instalation and the temp file can be removed from manager just like any regular app.

Ah ha.. up ^^ for thinking, down !^^ for dancing 😉 It works pretty much the same way then as a POP3 server performs a maildrop lock on an mailbox during a client poll then. The mail server creates a clone of the mailbox, allows the client to drop the contents, then deletes both clone and original. The clone in this case is created so that any failures in transmission don't bugger up the mailbox...

I had some probs with user quota's being exceeded in work whereby the average user had a disc quota of say 100Mb, they could only receive 50Mb into their mailbox before their mail clients ran into errors when trying to poll the server because the server wasn't able to clone the mailbox due to the quota limitations... Hey ho, wandering waaaaaaaaaaaay off topic here, but, they call me "Tangent Man" in work 😉

P.S. Come on, come on.. one more credible post to make or reply for my 100th post 😃
